It has straightforward instructions for setup, adjustment, and use; converting it to shielding gas use was so easy, I was building my welder cart with it within an hour of pulling it from its box.

I purchased this welder to increase my options in my home shop. I previously purchased a Lincoln 125 for light welding on the family ranch and enjoyed its flexibility. The 180 allows me to weld heavier materials, but tune it to thinner materials easily. I still use my Lincoln AC tombstone stick welder for heavy stuff, but the 180 does not lack much in the penetration game. I am going to set it up for aluminum welding so I can utilize this in repairs. As of now I am only running .035 Inner shield flux core wire, it works great, but I want the versatility of gas shielded wire also. I have used the 180 to build a go cart for my friends grand kids, a 4x6 1/4" top work table (see pic) and a roller table for my chop saw.

I used to have the Lincoln Electric Mig140 and just going from 120V to 240v made a difference. More power and welds really nice.

I AM VERY SURPRIZED. At first, I was not sure about it being strong enough to burn thick material.
I am A welder of 13 years and use stick and flux at home for everything. I have a Hobart Handler 120. And it is just not hot enough. Needed to speed up production time. I bought this Lincoln 180 HD 3 days ago and finished my job fast. One problem they don't tell you....is that you can not plug it straight in to the dryer hook up. The welder can run up to 50 amps. Dryer hook up is 30 amps. A Stove range is 50 amp. I didn't want to change the dryer plug in the garage, because I run my stick welder off of it. So you can make a pig tail with the 6-50R female end wired with 240 volt 50 amp cord 1ft long to a 30/50A-125/250V. witch will plug in to dryer and you can start welding the once you hook it up. I am no electrician....lol and I put it together. I love this welder......I can run hard wire Hot and fast. I welded up to 1/2 thick with hard wire. solid hot, no under cut , nice fill. Need I tell you I weld with 3/32, 5/64, 1/16 outer shield wire on a daily bases at work. Needed a better welder for home. This litter welder can get r done. The roller is smooth and quiet, runs very good hot flat welds. Sounds like bacon cooking lol.
I am only running the Lincoln on 220 v 30 amp dryer plug and it works great, even on the highest setting. Very happy customer,....to bad it didn't come with the Aluminum spool gun.....
that's only $200.00 extra and does not come with 045. roller. has to be ordered.
I do highly recommend this welder, good price....

Killer Home Welder
I am a new welder but have a zillion projects I need a welder for. I have a great welding shop in my town but, they cost a bundle for small jobs and takes a week or more to get it done. I'll get it done way faster and before I get done with half my projects, I will have paid for this machine.
I needed to add some 1/4" rod to the edge of a security door frame to get the jamb mounted. At the low (2) setting, I was easily able to get nice white penetration without distorting the jamb. That job would have run me $75 to $100 downtown. Cha-CHING!
As for the 220 wiring, its a standard welder plug. They sell em at HD. 220v wiring is easier than 110v wiring: Two hots and a ground. Can't screw it up. If you have 220 and the wrong plug, spend the $10 for the correct plug, shut your power off (verify), and wire the new plug in. The directions are on the new plug box! If you are worried about your insurance voiding a claim due to DIY wiring work, just know if you do it wrong you will pop the breaker. If you do it correctly (99% chance if you can read), you'll be in business.
I wired my shop with 220v just for my welder and compressor and it was stupid simple. My Home Depot has an experienced electrician to answer questions and she pointed me in the right direction and it worked from the second I turned it on. Sweet.
The 180 is fairly heavy but a cart makes it easy to move to the welding location and to store parts and pieces.

Excellent! right out of the Box
New to the Wire feed world. The welder worked right out of the box. NOTE: Buy yourself a big spool of wire with it maybe 2. I bought an extra 1lb spool of wire. I went through 2lbs in the first day. I have attached a pic of my project in progress.
My Wife misses me as I am playing with my new toy in my shop. LOL
