Awning windows have hinges at the top and swing open from the bottom. Typically, these windows don’t open more than a few inches wide.

Bay windows generally feature a large picture window in the center with two narrower windows on either side. Bay windows are similar to bow windows but have three distinct panels instead of the typical four to five panels bow windows have.

The double-hung window style is made of two main panels that can both open to allow in fresh air.
