Desert Outdoor Dining Update With The Home Depot
Welcome to our outdoor kitchen. We were so inspired by the outdoor spaces of the Mediterranean and Southwest for this project. We wanted to create a space that had the comfort of the indoors, with a similar architecture and design elements from within our home, while still embracing the natural beauty of our surrounding landscape, with soft lines, natural materials and earthy hues. Keep reading to see how we transformed a dirt corner of our yard into a tranquil outdoor dining area with The Home Depot.
Here's the space before hand... we measured things out and then literally just laid rocks down in the formation we were envisioning. Check out the sketch below for the measurements we used.
The Home Depot is always our go to when it comes to home projects because you can get everything in one place, which makes it all so much easier. Plus they just have an overall great selection of items to help celebrate any milestone. If you’ve been following along for a while, you know this home build journey has been just that: a journey. Years of planning, a lot of saving and hard work has gone into this home and now that we’re finally moved in, it’s worth celebrating. We wanted to create a space to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors with friends. We sourced everything from the concrete blocks for the bench and counter to the flagstone (color is Arizona Buff) for the patio floor, pizza oven, bowls and dining furniture. We sourced out the handy work, but purchased all the materials from The Home Depot beforehand, so if you want to try to DIY this, check out the items and images below.
You can see that the bottom left niche is different than the original sketch. We decided half way through to make it more tall, so that if we wanted to put a propane tank there for the pizza oven (which is dual wood burning and propane), we could. I will probably add a little door there down the line.
We put a BBQ on the other side of our house, so when we were thinking of a dining area for this space we thought it could be fun to add a pizza oven. I also really liked the idea of having this built-in stucco area open, where if we wanted to change it over time without a completely built-in cooking area, we would have options. The Home Depot has so many pizza ovens (and BBQs) to choose from. We ordered the Gozney Dome and it is gorgeous! One of our friends is always whipping up pizzas for us with his (smaller profile Gozney oven), so we knew it was the right choice.
We incorporated a planter box as the back of the bench seat. Cannot wait to see these cacti take off and create a wall of greenery.
