Weekend DIY Project: Garage-To-Home-Gym Transformation

I want to share how we turned our cluttered garage into a personalized home gym just in time for fall. A home gym offers convenience, time efficiency and the freedom to customize the space to meet your fitness needs. It only took a weekend to make this transformation, so I hope this inspires your next project during the Labor Day weekend!

Here’s a Step-By-Step for Our Garage-To-Home Gym Makeover

Step 1: Organize
This space in our garage is a catch-all for all the scrap wood, old toys and things we want to sell & donate. To make this space more functional, we must clear the mess first and find a home for all these random things.
I found this sturdy four-tier shelf and these storage tote boxes. These are perfect for our storage needs and the space we have.
We assembled the garage shelf. Then, we separated and organized all the random things lying on the ground. We assembled the garage shelf. Then, we separated and organized all the random things lying on the ground.
Step 2: Paint a Mural

With the big sturdy shelf against a plain wall, I craved some fun colors in the space. Inspired by Pinterest, I decided to DIY a fun mural with colorful arches.
I drew the arches with a pushpin, thread and pencil. Using a paint brush, I outlined the circle and arches with paint.
Then, I used painter's tape to paint the straight lines. Then I just rolled inside the outlines.
Step 3: DIY a Wall Mirror

What's a gym without a wall mirror? But I fear we would break it accidentally while working out or carrying our heavy tools and lumber.
So, I got these bendable, shatterproof mirror stickers. I painted a giant black rectangle to fit in two rows on these mirrors. Then we stuck the mirror stickers on the black wall to make it look like a huge mirror.
Step 4: Stencil a Motivational Quote

Nothing gives a gym vibe like a motivational quote. I used 12-inch stencils to paint my favorite quote.
You can use painter's tape to put these stencils in place and ensure the letters are straight. Then you can use a roller to fill these in.
Step 5: Add Floor Mats

Lastly, I added these gym floor mats to complete the space.
Step 6: Decorate

I also planted a plant using garden soil to make the space more welcoming and cozier.
Here’s the Final Look

We did EVERYTHING in just one weekend! We found everything we needed for this project at The Home Depot, making everything much easier.
This makeover lightened up our garage and we finished it just in time for fall. I hope this inspires you to tackle a space in your home during this Labor Day weekend.
