Crystel Montenegro is the owner of Crystel Montenegro Home. This website began in an effort to show you that creating a beautiful, comfortable, and functional home does not have to be an expensive or difficult ordeal. She started her DIY journey as a stay-at-home mom while her husband was preparing to begin his first year of medical school. They were living in her sister’s basement temporarily and wanted to find a way to make it a cute space, but on a budget due to little income at the time. She searched through Pinterest for ideas, and once she had the plans she made her way to the nearest Home Depot beginning her DIY journey that has blossomed into a community of people to share an array of fun projects and home ideas!

Passing on the Magic of Christmas
My family recently moved into a fixer-upper, and I’ve spent most of my days knocking down walls, relocating windows, building kitchen cabinets, etc. I’ve had the goal in the back of my head that I want most of the living areas to be completed by Christmas because:
I LOVE Christmas
I LOVE decorating for Christmas
I DON’T love the idea of spending Christmas morning in a room that smells of joint compound and is covered in a thin layer of wood filler dust.
I’ve recently shifted my focus to the dining room because that’s where we spend most of our time together. We just finished installing an electric fireplace in the dining room, and I positioned our dining table right in front of the hearth. The idea of sitting at our table next to a cozy fire seems so dreamy, especially during the holidays. Christmas is very special to me, and I want to make it magical for my little girls, but it’s hard when we live in a construction zone. Since our dining room is complete, I’m turning the area into a magical Christmas wonderland I know my girls will love.
I Found the Magic I Needed at Home Depot
My family has collected a lot of Christmas decorations over the years, but for our first Christmas in the new house, I really wanted to upgrade our décor to something classy and elegant. So, I checked out what The Home Depot has to offer. I’m sure every year you’ve seen their Christmas tree and ornament selection, but did you know their online store has so much more? Picking and choosing from all the options was almost as hard as building my dining room fireplace.
As I was looking around The Home Depot’s website, one word kept coming to mind: REPURPOSE. As a frugal DIYer, I know this word very well. I looked for dinnerware set that was neutral enough to be used at Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, or even the occasional dinner party. The Home Depot carries this beautiful dinnerware that would look stunning on any table during any holiday.
Isn’t this gorgeous silverware the perfect gold tone? And the jute placemats are super kid friendly.
After I had picked out my dinnerware, I searched for components for the centerpiece. I like to keep my centerpieces simple, so I mixed and matched a few different items until I was happy with the result. The white, green, and gold is always a winning combination.
Choosing the home décor was so fun! The trees I picked out are an array of golds and whites, and pair well with the muted tones of the greenery.
Sometimes people forget that serving ware can also be decorative. These wood serving boards are perfect for holiday charcuterie.
And finally, my dining room Christmas Tree needed a makeover. I don’t like to over decorate, and between the centerpieces, serving ware, and décor, I wanted the tree to look lovely, yet uncomplicated. The natural look of pinecones coupled with the silver and gold ornaments make the tree look breathtaking, without overwhelming the room.
How my Dining Room Became My Favorite Room
I’m in awe of my dining room transformation, and it’s such a sense of accomplishment seeing this room go from four bare walls to a stunning wonderland. Thank you to The Home Depot! Now can you help me transform the rest of my house?
