How can I get my mulch delivered?
This year, enjoy free mulch delivery from our stores when you reach a purchase threshold. Our associates partner with a third-party, delivering your mulch in a vehicle that matches your project needs. Small orders arrive in a car with a $3 fee, medium orders utilize our vans for a $35 fee, and large orders will ship to you in a flatbed or box truck at a $79 fee.
What if I want to pick up the mulch myself?
Yes, you're welcome to pick up your own mulch. We're also ready to help if you need it. After you purchase mulch in-store or online with store pickup, go to the drive-thru or mulch loading zone if your store has one. An Orange Apron can load a small or medium mulch order into your truck or SUV. For very large orders of bagged mulch or bulk yard mulch, you'll likely want delivery.
Does my mulch get delivered in a car or van instead of a truck?
If you have a small bagged mulch order, you can get it delivered to your door via a store-fulfilled local delivery service that uses third-party drivers. Your mulch will arrive in a regular car or van for just a $3 delivery fee. Yard mulch, also called bulk or loose mulch, will come in a truck. If you order a specific number of bags, you may qualify for free delivery. That threshold varies from store to store. However, you'll be able to verify the cost at checkout.
What size mulch order gets flatbed delivery?
When you're ordering huge quantities of bulk mulch or pallets of bagged mulch, you'll be looking at box truck or flatbed delivery. Normally, these are Pro customers, serious DIYers, or landscapers undertaking a major landscaping project. There's usually a delivery fee and minimum pallet order. Orders that pass a threshold may qualify for free delivery.
What should I do about weeds in my garden?
Weeds are likely poking through in the garden beds, even if you put down a landscape fabric or mulch to keep them at bay. Be sure to get them before they go to seed. Pull out weeds from the root in vegetable or edible flower gardens, and dig up the roots if the weed snaps off at ground level. If you choose to treat weeds with weed killer, find one that's safe for pollinators and pets — and wear thick rubber gloves and a respirator to ensure that it doesn't irritate your lungs or your skin.
Is my lawn dead?
It could be, but it's likely just taking a break during those summer temperatures. Cool-season grass goes dormant in the summer. It isn't usually dead — just brown and crispy. Here’s how you can check to see if it’s dormant: If you tug on a grass blade and it pulls right out, it's time to plant new seed or sod because the grass is a goner. Water dormant lawns deeply and infrequently. Warm-season lawns need water every few days in the summer. Those lawns stay green if they're healthy. When should I water my garden?
If you can water at least once a day, close to sunrise or sunset, that's ideal. When it's the height of summer, twice is better. Watering during the heat of the day means a great deal of the moisture will evaporate. This applies to whatever you've got growing: plants, veggies, trees, and grass. Whenever you water, give all the plants a good drink, and don't skip it when it's not the ideal time. The plants still need water to live, no matter what time it is. Depending on your grass type, lawn health, and climate, you may also want to look into applying a lawn fertilizer.
Should I fertilize my flower garden?
Once you've gotten your plants into the soil, you'll need to make sure they stay well-fed and hydrated. Choose a synthetic or an organic fertilizer and give your garden a boost. You can even find one that's formulated for your plants, whether you need a flower fertilizer, vegetable fertilizer, citrus tree fertilizer, or general garden fertilizer blend. Only apply as often as recommended on the packaging. Always water immediately after, as directed. That way, the plants won't be burned by the fertilizer.
How can I keep cool this summer?
When you need a break from working in the yard, shelter beneath a patio umbrella or a covered gazebo. If you have sturdy structures like a shed or house, make your own shade by attaching awnings and shade sails. But sometimes shade isn't enough because it's just too humid out. That's when a patio mister or misting fan can help cool the air and turn an uncomfortable afternoon into a refreshingly relaxing day. Return to lounging in the sun when that chilled air is ready.
How do I do a quick patio makeover for entertaining?

Settle Into Summer
As we stretch into the dog days of summer, your garden and landscaping will weather more sun and heat than earlier in the season. That means you'll need to consider how to keep things cool with proper tending and irrigation. Just like we can get sunburned, plants can dry out, grass can get scorched, and trees can lose their leaves too early. We've got advice to help you, your garden, and your lawn sail through the hotter months with flying colors.
Lawn Repair and Patching
Scorched, or burnt, grass has a distinctively shaped discoloration that isn't green. It happens when a reflective surface shines continuously on your lawn, or plastic or metal sits on the grass and bakes in the sunlight. You'll discover it once you move something sitting in the yard, like a sprinkler or garden hose. Mirrors or car windows can also scorch grass when the sun angle is just right.
Water scorched grass well and wait a week or so. You should see the signs of life returning by then. If it's damaged by pet urine or otherwise unsalvageable, you'll need to use patch and repair seed to fix it up or replace the grass.
Whether you’re doing upkeep on your current lawn or patching the bare spots, keep in mind which type of grass it is and tailor your lawn care accordingly. Match the grass type to your lawn if you're doing patch repair. When planting new grass, choose a variety that works with the amount of sun your lawn gets. For example, if your lawn is shaded by trees with only a tiny peek of sun, make sure you plant full shade grass that's not meant for full sun.
Watch Your Garden Thrive
Much of your garden's upkeep comes down to balancing sun and water. You'll need both to keep plants growing and flowering. A general rule when watering flowers and plants is to aim the water at the roots. A garden hose, sprinkler or sprinkler system, or drip irrigation system will do the job. You don't need to water or even mist the blooms themselves. Many flowers wilt when they get wet, but they'll recover just fine once they dry off. Succulents are, of course, the exception to basic watering rules, so look up your specific succulent types to optimize their care.

Grow Your Own Herbs
Get fresh flavors to accent garden-fresh veggies with herb gardening. They're generally low-maintenance. It's easy to learn how to grow herbs indoors, but you can raise them outside, too. Planting herbs in the ground can be tricky, as many of them — especially mint — are invasive and will take over your lawn. To avoid a yard full of mint or other herbs, keep them in small plant pots on a sunny porch, window sill, or even in wall planters. Herbs also work as a hydroponic garden, which means they don't grow in soil. Instead, they grow in a mixture of rock chips, perlite, or sand.
Trees as Natural Shade
Trees are the ultimate natural source of shade, and they can change the appearance of your yard. Whether you plant a few trees as accents, a few more to bear fruit, or a whole mini-forest, keep in mind this is a long-term commitment. When they're healthy, trees live many decades — and some for hundreds of years. Learn how to plant a tree before you shop — whether you're planting deciduous tree saplings, evergreens, or more mature trees.
Although trees framing a house may look picturesque, you should research the specifics of those trees before you plant them. Consider how far the root ball extends outward, the full-grown size of the trees you want, and how deep the taproots go. Plant your trees far from plumbing pipes, as their strong roots will seek water and creep into piping to get it. Leave a safe distance from your home, as large trees can catch the wind if not properly pruned.
