Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting rechargeable batteries, plastic plant pots, CFLs, and lead acid batteries for recycling.
Home Depot stores sent approximately 5.3 million pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This has helped the planet by preserving over 63,500 trees, keeping over 16,000 trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saving over 50 million gallons of water, and conserving 7.8 million kilowatt hours of electricity.
Since 2010, we have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our associates and customers, and this commitment extends beyond our stores to the environment, as well as our communities. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Read more about our commitment to economic responsibility.

What are some Halloween ideas for indoor and outdoor decoration?
Start with general Halloween decorations. Then, decide if you want indoor Halloween decor vs outdoor Halloween decor, scary vs kid-friendly options, or traditional fall vs favorite classic Halloween decorations. Halloween inflatables and animatronics offer a quick solution for instant spirit. You can even have both sweet and scary elements with wreaths that combine fall and holiday elements in Halloween wreaths.
Do I need a generator?
Having a generator means you're prepared year-round for any circumstances Mother Nature throws at you. Whether you're dealing with hurricanes, tornados, severe thunderstorms, blizzards or strong winds, a portable generator lets you enjoy power after the elements knock it out. When searching generators for sale, don't forget that portable generators cost less and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're heavier and louder. For safety purposes, always run your generators outside, away from doors and windows.
Should I make siding repairs before it gets cold?
Ready your home for cold weather by repairing or replacing broken parts of your home and hardscaping. If water freezes in the crevices, you could have problems. On the outside of your home, examine metal roofs or shingles for rust or damage that could let water leak into your home. Gutters should be cleaned to prevent ice dams. Check brickwork and cinder blocks for cracks. Indoors, verify ceiling tiles are free from missing pieces and water damage. Lastly, vinyl siding and chimney caps should be swapped if damaged.
What are some storage solutions for a crowded holiday home?
As you prepare for the holidays, stow unused items to free up space. Garage cabinets keep tools, decorations, and more out of the way. Shoe racks and other storage bins take summer belongings out of the equation. Moving blankets can shield fragile items as they're packed together. If you need even more room, a new shed can give you plenty.
How do I check my Home Depot gift card balance?
Gift cards to The Home Depot are an excellent present for the holidays, birthdays, and housewarming parties. DIYers know they're fun to give and to receive. Purchase gift cards online at homedepot.com or in our brick-and-mortar stores. If you receive a gift card, you can visit the Carefree Home Depot and ask a cashier to check the balance for you or check your gift card balance online. Redeem our gift cards for online or in-store shopping, all with no additional fees.
