Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting plastic plant pots, CFLs, lead acid batteries, and rechargeable batteries for recycling.
Home Depot stores sent approximately 5.3 million pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This helped the planet by preserving over 63,500 trees, keeping over 16,000 trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saving over 50 million gallons of water, and conserving 7.8 million kilowatt hours of electricity.
LED lights in your local store cut down energy consumption by 98 million kilowatt hours. Many stores also participate in renewable energy initiatives like solar and wind.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our associates and customers, and this commitment extends beyond our stores to our local communities and the environment. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Read more about our commitment to economic responsibility.

How can I decorate my home indoors for Halloween?
Browse our indoor Halloween decorations. Add spirit to coffee tables and counters with Halloween tabletop decor, walls or doors with Halloween garlands, and everywhere else with Halloween props. Depending on the lighting options or material, many garlands and wreaths work for both outdoor and indoor use.
Why should I get a generator?
Having a generator means you're prepared year-round for whatever circumstances life throws at you. Whether dealing with hurricanes, tornados, or strong winds, a portable generator lets you enjoy power after the elements take it out. When considering different generators for sale, keep in mind that portable generators are more affordable and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're louder and heavier. For safety purposes, always run your generators outdoors, away from windows and doors.
Why should I repair my roof before the cold sets in?
Ready your home for cold weather by repairing or replacing broken parts of your hardscaping and home. If water freezes in the crevices, you could be headed for trouble. Check brickwork and cinder block for cracks, and ensure indoor ceiling tiles are free from missing pieces and water damage. On the outside of your home, examine metal roofs or roof shingles for rust or damage that could let water in. Clean gutters to prevent ice dams. Lastly, vinyl siding and chimney caps should be changed if in poor condition.
What's the best way to store extra holiday decor?
As you prepare for the holidays, give yourself extra space in the house and stow away the rest. Garage cabinets keep tools, decorations, and more out of the way. Protect fragile items with moving blankets. Shoe racks and other storage bins take summer belongings out of the equation. If you need even more room, a new shed can give you the space you've been waiting for.
How do I check my Home Depot gift card balance?
Gift cards to The Home Depot are an excellent present for the holidays, birthdays, and housewarming parties. DIYers know they're fun to give and to receive. Buy gift cards online at homedepot.com or in our stores. If you're a recipient, you can check your gift card balance online or visit your local Home Depot store and ask a cashier to check the balance for you. Redeem our gift cards for online or in-store shopping, all with no additional fees.
