Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting plastic plant pots, CFLs, lead acid batteries, and rechargeable batteries for recycling.
Our stores sent approximately 5.3M pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This helped the planet by preserving over 63.5K trees. It kept over 16K trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saved over 50M gallons of water, and conserved 7.8M kilowatt hours of electricity.
Since 2010, we have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our customers and associates, and this commitment extends beyond our stores to our communities and the environment. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Read more about our eco actions.

Do you carry large outdoor Halloween decorations?
Yes, we stock many gigantic outdoor Halloween decorations, including many life-sized animatronics. Make your yard the scariest on the block with giant Halloween decor options, including skeletons and witches. Dean the Deathologist and Skelly, the giant 12-foot skeleton, are two current favorites. Halloween inflatables are another way to up the drama and create interest.
Why should I get a generator?
We've got the variety you need when searching for a generator for sale. Inverter generators are quieter and cleaner than traditional portable generators. They adjust to whatever power load is requested. This means they'll make less noise in times of lesser demand. When searching generators for sale, don't forget that portable generators cost less and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're heavier and louder. For safety purposes, always run your generators outdoors, away from windows and doors.
How can I prepare my home for the winter?
Make sure your home is ready for colder weather by replacing or repairing broken parts of your home and hardscaping. If water freezes in the crevices, you could be in for a real headache. Check bricks and cinder block for cracks, and verify indoor ceiling tiles are free from missing pieces and water damage. On the outside of your home, examine roofing shingles or metal roofing panels for damage or rust that could let water in. Clean gutters to prevent ice dams. Lastly, chimney caps and vinyl siding should be replaced if they're damaged.
What's the best way to store extra holiday decor?
As you prepare for the holidays, stow what you don't need to enjoy extra space. Garage cabinets keep tools, decorations, and more out of the way. Moving blankets protect fragile items as they're packed together. Shoe racks and other storage containers remove summer belongings from the equation. If you need even more room, a new shed can give you the space you've been waiting for.
How do I check my Home Depot gift card balance?
Home Depot gift cards are an excellent choice for birthdays, housewarming parties, and the holidays. DIYers know these gift cards are fun to give and to receive. Purchase them online at homedepot.com or in our stores. If you're a recipient, you can visit the Hermitage Home Depot and ask a cashier to check the balance for you or check your gift card balance online. Redeem our gift cards for online or in-store shopping, all with no additional fees.
