Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting rechargeable batteries, plastic plant pots, CFLs, and lead acid batteries for recycling.
Our stores sent approximately 5.3M pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This has helped the planet by preserving over 63.5K trees. It kept over 16K trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saved over 50M gallons of water, and conserved 7.8M kilowatt hours of electricity.
Since 2010, we have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our customers and associates, and this commitment extends beyond our stores to the environment, as well as our local communities. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Learn more about our eco actions.

Do you carry Halloween animatronics?
Yes, we carry many types of Halloween decor that move and make noise. Our Halloween animatronics bring spooky characters to life. Bring the scare level of a haunted house to your own home. This includes current favorites like Dean the Deathologist and Skelly. For additional drama, use a fog machine or two to hide the animatronics until they start to move.
Should I get a portable generator or an inverter generator?
Having a generator means you're prepared year-round for any circumstances Mother Nature throws at you. Whether dealing with hurricanes, tornados, blizzards, severe thunderstorms, or strong winds, a portable generator lets you enjoy electricity when the elements take it out. When browsing generators for sale, keep in mind that portable generators are more affordable and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're heavier and louder. Always run your generators outdoors, away from windows and doors, for safety purposes.
What home repairs should I make before winter?
Make sure your home is ready for winter weather by replacing or repairing faulty parts of your home and hardscaping. If water freezes in any crevices, you could be looking at trouble. On the outside of your home, examine metal roof panels or roofing shingles for rust or damage that could let water in. Clean gutters to prevent ice dams. Check cinder block and bricks for cracks. Indoors, verify ceiling tiles are free from water damage and missing pieces. Lastly, vinyl siding and chimney caps should be changed out if they're in poor condition.
What are some storage options for a crowded holiday home?
As you prepare for the holidays, make extra space with storage solutions. Shoe storage and other storage bins take summer belongings out of the equation. Garage cabinets keep decorations, tools, and more out of the way. Shield fragile items with moving blankets. If you need even more room, a new shed can give you the right amount of space.
How do I check the balance of my Home Depot gift card?
Gift cards to The Home Depot are a popular present for the holidays, birthdays, and housewarming parties. DIYers know they're fun to give and to receive. They can be purchased online at homedepot.com or in our brick-and-mortar stores. If you're a recipient, you can visit your local Home Depot store and ask a cashier to check the balance for you or check your gift card balance online. Our gift cards can be redeemed in-store or used to shop online with no additional fees.
