About This Product

Designed for light-duty anchoring applications, these plastic conical anchors provide extra support for loads. They feature specially-made fins that prevent the anchor from turning in the hole during and after installation. The split in the anchor ensures 3-way expansion on sides for increased holding power and can be used with sheet metal, wood and lag screws in hollow walls. Requires a pre-drilled hole for installation.

Q:Question: Has anyone else experienced anchor failure with this kit? I have experienced a problem with the plastics used for these anchors, causing them to fail under light load conditions. The composition of the anchors becomes brittle and crumbles into powder when exposed to moderate physical shock and the screw will fall out unexpectedly. The unused portion of this kit has been stored indoors and never exposed to extreme temperatures, leaving me to conclude the plastic composition is flawed or the wrong type.

Answer This Question

A:  No failure

by|Dec 5, 2020

A:  I think the primary cause is contamination is from cyanoacrylate or C/A glue exposure. The anchor kit was stored in the same cabinet where I keep this specialize Titebond instant wood glue and activator. My oversight.

A:  If you are experiencing a problem with the product you should be able to exchange or return it at your local Home Depot. You could also reach out to Customer Care for assistance.

A:  Not at all. I take care of rentals and offer free installing of anything hanging on walls so as to cause as little damage as possible. I use a lot of these.

A:  Frank, I am surprised to hear of this dramatic a problem with these anchors. I've gone thru several packages in the last couple of decades without really any issues. This must be a bad batch.

          Anchors fail
I have blue hawk anchors for my kids room with just clothes on it. It's been sitting there for about 30 days. Anchors failed and half the shelf came down

            Good product
The anchors themselves are a solid product. I would highly recommend buying a real masonry bit it you intend to drill into CMU, brick or concrete.

I just bought my second package of these screws/anchors; I really like having one of these around the house. For general use I don't think there is a better choice. I'm not sure how long ago I bought the first package, but these are great for hanging pictures & many other things. So this is strictly DIY stuff. If there is an exceptional case where I need a bigger anchor, I buy just the number I need for that project. The only problem I had was the drill bits are not masonry bits in the new package & I have real plaster walls, which require the use of a masonry bit to drill a hole. Not an insurmountable problem as I have the correct bits already. However, the first package I bought included masonry bits. Even though the packaging states, "For use in drywall and plaster," I've had good success with small masonry projects.
