Answer This Question

A:  I haven't used it that way. It can probably be used for the supply side where there is only the pressure from the spigot. I wouldn't recommend on the high pressure side.

Leak and broke after 6 month
The leak section is always coiled up and stored on the hose reel cart. Please see the picture. Bought in April, broke on Oct.

      Busted after 3 weeks
Bought 3 of these to stretch out +200ft to water garden in backyard and was working great until one morning I noticed water coming out where hose attaches to the spigot. I changed the washer hoping that's all it needed but as you can see in the photo the water is not even running inside the hose as it's all getting redirected between the blue sleeve and the hose. Its hasnt been moved in 3 weeks so I know it's nothing I did.

        Indestructible? Pffft…Not Hardly!
I bought 4 hoses. I loved that they were lightweight. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that the metal bands were separated and I could see the white inner tubing which is very soft and flexible. At first, I wondered if I had pulled on it too hard, but then I saw it was swollen and a rip had formed and it had flooded the area. I had forgotten to turn off the water at the house the night before. My mistake! However, then the newest hose on the other side of the house has sprung a leak, and it floods the area under that tear, but still has enough pressure to use the nozzle. I’m disappointed.

I bought two of these with high hopes. I assumed it was my roses that were doing in my hoses. First, it took a while to get, almost a month before they showed up. I picked them up April 14th. I don't remember when I installed them, but I got brand new hose holders, out of the sun. They leak from the grip area under that blue cover almost from day one, but that wasn't too bad. But last week, the one that gets the least use and handled best didn't just leak, it is hemorrhaging. I can barely use the hose as the pressure is so altered. Not even 3 months!!! I am so disappointed!! I really liked the cool feel to hose no matter how sunny and the way to winds back onto the hose holder, but bursting like this, not even through the season is terrible.

I love these SS hoses for around the home... and I can attest that this SunJoe hose is noticeably heftier that the "Bionic" hose offered on TV and elsewhere. They're not indestructible and are far less resilient than the rubber alternative, but the light weight and ease of control are irresistible. That said, there's two major flaws: First, the couplings are aluminum, which is galvanic with brass... you'll quickly see that they lock on and corrode with a white effuse – the first pic I show is from less than a month of being attached to a brass fitting (look for the white "rust" at the fitting). The fittings are also ridiculously thin in the grip and impossible to uncouple with anything but pliers after a week of galvanizing. Second, the water volume is choked off by a 1/4" lumen. Your home plumbing is almost certainly 1/2" at best, and most bibs (faucets) and valves cut this to 3/8". So anything more than 3/8" is probably a waste, but this 1/4" ID hose is a problem. I felt it the first time I used it. But if you're willing to spend a Saturday and the price of a six-pack of decent beer then I think you'll have something special. If you buy cheap beer you might struggle a bit, so be forewarned. I cut the end off with a Dremel and abrasive wheel... surprisingly easy, meaning there's not much thickness to this stainless steel. I then abraded the inside of some excellent Underhill (Google them) fittings with a carbide bit, and flared the inside edge at the outlet in the process. Next I used 3M 5200 adhesive to coat the inside of the fitting as well as the outside of the SS part of the hose. Then I twisted them together. It's a tight fit so try it first dry. It's perfect for a glue joint of this nature. Next comes the inner hose... I wiped it with alcohol and then used 7/16" x 9/16" o-rings to space out the glue and make sure the lumen didn't collapse and restrict flow. It worked out perfectly with three or four o-rings, and I ended up by pushing the hose into place and doing my best to taper the gap between the 3/4" brass and plastic hose with adhesive. The adhesive is easily cleaned with alcohol, so it's easy to work with. This same approach can be used to mend one of these hoses. Not the easiest I guess, and not something to be done in the field, but definitely doable. And definitely worth it in my opinion to get rid of the aluminum fittings. Oh dang... forgot to mention that the grips I used were shrink-wrap style designed for fishing poles. I used 2 pieces of 25mm diameter and they worked great – make sure to cut them and feed them on at the start! Check the photos – hope they're explanatory enough. You might not think going from 1/4" to 3/8" is a big deal, but you really see it and feel it in the power of the hose. Especially when washing the car. the cross area is the thing... going from 1/4" to 3/8" more than doubles the cross area (.196 vs .442). It basically gives you back full hose power.

This was my first experience ever with a metal garden hose. I will never go back to using the rubber or vinyl ones again. These metal hoses are so much easier to manage...they just don't kink, it's impossible for the hose to kink. And they are so much more flexible than the rubber/vinyl hoses which tend to want to curl in certain directions. There is no fighting with the metal hose. Just smooth easy use. Such a nice experience compared to the rubber/vinyl hoses. The only things I don't like about this metal hose are that the water coming out at first smells horrible due to the inner lining of the hose leaching chemicals into the water sitting in the hose while not in use, and that it's 1/2 inch diameter which lowers the water pressure a little bit. Also, the ends of the hose are not the best design...sometimes they are hard to attach to spigots or nozzles because the threaded section is a bit short and the grippy part that you hold onto to screw in the end is too small. But once you do get the attachments on, the hose works great. Just let the water run for a minute to get all the chemically water out of the hose. Works great with my hose box (reel box), too.

I bought 2 of these and glad I did. Dragging the regular hose around was so HEAVY! I did try the EXPANDABLE, RETRACTABLE hose but it leaked after a couple months, wasted money. These are light in weight, sturdy and tangle free! Love this product !! Same material as shower sprayer hose.
