Questions & Answers

Bedding and Blankets, can this machine wash them?

Can a comforter or sleeping bag be washed in this machine? Need some detail on capacity and possible agitator damage to clothing. The machines simplicity I find compelling. The newer non agitators seem too problematic and complex for my use.
Asked by: John
John Boy, my advice is sheets and pillow cases only. Your asking for trouble if you overload any washer w blankets that will spin off balance and damage the machine..

does it have a fabric softner dispenser?

Asked by: Neen
Yes, it actually does. But you have to go off-site to find it. I tried to say where, but system here won't let it through. Imagine what brand this is, and go directly there. Follow their prompts for fabric softener dispenser. It is inexpensive.

I purchased this washer today and it's making a wierd noise I'm not sure if it's working properly. How long do I wait

Asked by: Kozette
OMG...this washer has more noises than you can imagine! It works WELL though. It's a great machine if you have it in a basemaent and NOT an first floor laundry room.

At what point and /or where do you add the fabric softener?

Fabric Softener
Asked by: Henry
You would put the softener in when the washer starts filling the tub at the start of the rinse cycle. You would press the start/pause button, which will stop the cycle and unlock the lid (it takes several seconds). Open the lid, add fabric softener into the tub, close the lid and press the start/pause button to resume the rinse cycle. You'll have to get a feel for how long it takes the washer to reach the rinse cycle, as it is fairly quiet in operation and there's no audible signal to alert you. If you miss it, you can re-rinse with softener using the Rinse & Spin cycle manually.

Our 17 yr old Maytag manufactured washer broke down in the middle of a cycle. That machine served us well. We have children and wash several loads every week including cloth diapers. We chose this machine for a few reasons. They were; price, agitator, simplicity, size. We unloaded it and installed it within an hour and it was running its test load. Please read the manual to get the most of it's abilities and not waste soap. The multiple settings from auto sense to deep fill are used at our house. Using the temperature settings is very simple allowing many choices. This product exceeded expectations and I am sure will continue to do so with lower soap and energy usages

I BOUGHT IT IN SEPTEMBER 2017 AND IT STOPPED WORKING BY JANUARY 2018! CALLED FOR HELP AND HOME DEPOT TOLD ME TO GO EAT A KITE (BASICALLY). ASKED AMANA TO FIX IT SINCE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, WELL, THEY SENT A TECHNICIAN WHO DILIGENTLY WORKED ON IT AND SAID THAT IT WAS FIXED. AFTER HE LEFT, I TRIED TO WASH MY CLOTHES AND THE SAME PROBLEM: IT DOESN'T WORK. MACHINE STOPS (DOESN'T COMPLETE THE CYCLE) AND LOCKS THE LID. SO, NOW I HAVE CLOTHES LOCKED IN THE MACHINE AND THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO EXCEPT FOR DISMANTLING THE MACHINE TO GET THEM OUT. VERY VERY VERY VERY BAD BUY! DO NOT BUY ANY AMANA PRODUCTS, AND ESPECIALLY NOT FROM HOME DEPOT! TWO OF THE WORST FOR PRODUCT AND SERVICE!

I hate the washer! It takes a very long time to fill! It starts filling then it stops, starts filling then it stops and this goes on forever even on Deep Water Wash settings! The machine also starts agitating way too soon with barely any water in the tub putting excessive wear and tear on your clothes! The machine, on spin, goes out of balance pretty easily at times and makes extra loud banging sounds as it begins to walk. You also have to wait at times for the lid to unlock - ridiculous - like front loaders. I don't understand why there's been so many positive reviews. The machine is a piece of ___.

Was impressed with the features of my new Amana top load washer. The ability to select the water temperature, the auto sensing, deep wash makes my wash day simple. Along with added convenince cycle features locatef inside the lid of the washer helps me in deciding which clothes cycle to use. The machine is quiet, large enough for this bachelor. Only used this washer three times; liking it more and after each use. Another great buy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Washer for the Price! Like the title of my review says, this washer is good for the price. I rent a home where a washer and dryer are provided for us and the old washer that we had here kept having issues about every month. It was 34 years old, so what can you expect at this point? So this is the washer that our landlord had bought to replace it. I’ve done everything from all kinds of clothes, to sheets, to household linens and fabrics and I must say it does a good job. One thing I’ve noticed that I can’t say any other washer I’ve used has done before, is take out deodorant stains on shirts! I was very pleased about that. We’ve only had this washer for 2 weeks but I would recommend it to anyone, especially those who just want the basics on a washer

There been times I've taken everything out and started over. You can not set the length of time for cycle, never had a washer where you couldn't do that. No room to write more issues

Yes, I would recommend this washer, but caveat emptor: you must have some idea of what you're getting into when you buy the least expensive washer there is. TL;DR: Half-sized loads of laundry are fine, do a test run with something you don't mind potentially being destroyed. --- For our 2-adult household, this thing basically does the job. After living in apartments with pay-per-use wash for the last 10 years, I mostly find myself doing half-sized loads of clothes in the Amana just because I can, and that's fine. We do have an elderly dog though, and that means bedding and laundry. Her 40" square dog blanket or 15"x30" (thin) bed cause the machine to walk away from the wall. We are considering going to the trouble and expense of having the swing on our laundry room door reversed, or change to a bi-fold door, because it currently opens into the laundry room, which means we have to leave the door open when doing laundry in case the machine walks far enough away to block the door from opening (this nearly happened before we figured out we should leave the door open). As loud as the machine is doing regular laundry, the noise it makes when unbalanced is insane. Further, with standard length hoses, we have to be home when doing laundry so that we can turn the machine off and set it back against the wall so it doesn't rip out the connections. Not being able to put a load in and leave is irritating. The balance issue means no large loads, and nothing that's going to hold a lot of water (for example, more than 3 towels). Again, that's a mild irritation for us, but I bet it would drive me crazy if we had a larger household. Fortunately, our down bedding doesn't need washing often, but I know we'll need to head to our local laundromat when it finally comes up. To deal with the dog bedding issue, we've bought a couple of waterproof/removable/washable bed covers. At $50 a pop (look for one and tell me if you find one cheaper!), that plus the cost of the door change means our compensations to use this machine may end up costing more than the machine itself. However, if you're informed of all of this and half-sized loads sounds fine to you, I would recommend it if you're on a serious budget. We did get it on sale for $259, and I would not want to spend more than that on it. Lastly, the first machine delivered shredded a towel and our other dog blanket. HD was relatively quick to send a team to pickup/replace the machine, which was good. However, knowing that, I would recommend doing your first load with some items you don't particularly care about, just in case.
