The Ames thatch rake is a multi-purpose lawn rake featuring a head with 2 differently designed rows of tines. The straight-edged tines are designed to clear dead grass clippings (thatch) from beneath the surface of the lawn. Dethatching will allow air, sunshine, water and fertilizers in to keep the grass healthy. The flared-edge tines break crusted soil and pulverize dirt lumps to help prepare it for planting or reseeding.
14.25 in. self-cleaning rake head (a pull and it's full, a push and it's clean)
Straight-edged tines on the rake head remove thatch (dead grass clippings) from the yard
Flared-edge tines are used to prepare soil for reseeding, fertilizing and cultivating the lawn
54 in. North American hardwood handle for strength and durability
Dethatch your lawn at least once a year when the thickness of the thatch reaches 1/2 in.

I will start off by saying that this detacher rake does exactly what you'd want it to. It does take a lot of elbow grease to get the job done though.
My problem was not with the rake itself but rather the wing nuts that are used to adjust the angle of the head. They wouldn't really tighten all the way, so I really tightened them down and the wing nut snapped. They are pieces of garbage. I highly recommend replacing the aluminum crappy wing nuts with stainless steel. I attached a picture of the broken wing nuts.
After I replaced the wing nuts, every thing worked great. I completed one area of my lawn and you'll see how much came out. My advice is to mow the lawn short before attempting to dethach.

This thatch rake is the same as the True Temper Adjustable rake sold on Amazon for quite a bit more money. This rake absolutely does what it is supposed to do and is very durable. The question is whether a person uses it properly and is willing to spend the time, but it is a great thatch rake.
I find that you do not have to work hard with the rake. Just use very short strokes and repeatedly move it through the grass and it will do what it is supposed to do. The short, easy strokes allow you to stand up straight the whole time and not work yourself harder than need be. I can pull gently for a few short strokes over the same area and it will do the job without as much pulling out of green grass.
That said, this rake takes time to get a lawn done. I prefer to do it spread out over many days. The rake seems to work fine if the grass is dry or a little wet. I have never had to wipe off any grass that was caught up in the blades with my hands. Just push the blade forward on the ground and it always come right off.
If it does not completely dislodge it, the rake does tend to pull out crab grass and other weeds to be exposed. I just snipped them with some shears. My lawn mower never catches them because they lay flat out on the ground. But the thatch rake pulls them up and sometimes completely out, dependent on how rooted the weed is.

Best rake EVER!!
I bought this yesterday, and used it when I got home, I only did about 300 sq ft.
If you are lazy, DO NOT BUY THIS RAKE, you need to put some elbow grease into it, but not super hard to do either, you will break out a sweat.
If you like moving, exercise regularly, you will LOVE this rake, it removes thatch like crazy and it keeps you moving and working all your muscles. Think about it, why use a very expensive machine, when you can have this for less than $30 and burn some serious calories while you're at it.
Pictures are worth a thousand words, I was AMAZED at the amount of thatch this rake removed!
So, for the folks out there who love to move around and get your hands dirty, YOU WILL LOVE THIS RAKE!!!
