    Answer This Question

A:  You can easily convert from PEX A to Pex B by just using a PEX B insert fitting.  Here is a description of how to do that along with a couple other methods: https://www.willplumb.com/how-to-connect-pex-a-to-pex-b/

A:  We have three fittings that would join the pipe. A PEX-B brass or poly alloy 1/2 in. coupling, or a Tectite push-to-connect 1/2 in. coupling. Those items are: 1/2 in. Q:how do i connect and old steel pipe to pex? 3/4

            Answer This Question

A:  The best option would be an male or female adapter depending on the thread of the "old steel pipe". Which PEX piping system you desire to transition to would also be important information. Here is an example of a female adapter for PEX-b (legacy type PEX that requires crimps or clamps to secure): part # APXFA1212. For transition to PEX-a or Expansion PEX, the part # would be EPXFA1212. Enter either of these part numbers into the search bar on homedepot.com and the result should appear. Should you have any additional questions that we could answer, please contact us @ 1.888.229.2874 and we will be glad to assist you. Good luck with your project!

              Answer This Question

A:  When making a PEX-A connection, you'll first need to slide the PEX-A Expansion Sleeve onto the PEX-A pipe. Then, using your manual or power tool, expand the pipe and sleeve enough so that you can slide your fitting into the pipe. After about 30 seconds, the pipe and sleeve will find its original form and compress back down onto the fitting, making a successful connection. After doing so, it is not uncommon for you to be able to twist the fitting 360°. This will not cause a leak. Do not use super glue on or with PEX.

Garbage. What do I have to do to make this seal? It stretches & stays that way!
Everything is the size it should be. But, my 3/4 fittings can pretty well be pushed into the tubing--with these sleeve/rings attached--& without using the expansion tool. I bought the Apollo brand expansion tool that's recommended "for ease of use" on so many videos regarding connectivity longevity. These sleeves do nothing--or extremely little to help the PEX remember it's memory placitity--I've had my fitting duct taped to the tubing for 45 minutes--& I can still pull the fitting out. It's like the manual expansion tool warps the tubing on the first pump. If cold weather conditions effect the elasticity or memory--then notice should be given. I'm certainly not the only person to replace my water supply from the house to the meter, after old pipes were discovered leaking. I'm not the only one who has this happen in fall/winter. Also, Home Depot should have everyone working there knowledgeable & trained in PEX installation --since there are 6+ fitting systems!

I actually prefer to use these vs the Upnor brand most plumbing pros use. The collar is a little bigger and catches the pipe every time vs slipping over.

Easy to install expansion sleeve. Definitely get the correct PEX-A expansion tool! I highly recommend using the same manufacturer (Apollo) PEX-A pipe as well for a very dependable connection & system. No leaks first time around. Only use this with PEX-A expansion piping.

Works great. I prefer pex-a as the fittings are the same size of the pipe and this don’t get resistance like the pex-b fittings that are smaller than the pipe.

This makes plumbing as a DIYer fun. The only advice I would offer another DIYer is to wait 20 minutes before turning the water on as these 3/4” sleeves take a bit longer than the 1/2” to shrink back to normal size and seal the water line you are working on! Once shrunk to size there is no issue with positive seal!

You guys had all the tools and most of the fittings to do the whole job. I think the world of Pex a is expanding rapidly and you are definitely leading the pack. If anyone is going to do more than 1 project or is not physically strong get the battery powered expander. And measure twice, cut once. With tHis system you can do plumbing.
