Q:How do you oil the chain
by|Apr 15, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  This chain saw is equipped with a manual oiling system that keeps the saw chain and guide bar lubricated. Slowly press the primer bulb on the oil cap three times before making each cut. Hold the primer bulb down for 1 second each time. The oil level indicator shows the level of the oil in the chain saw. If the oil level is less than a quarter full, remove the battery from the chain saw and refill with the correct type of oil. NOTE: Use a high quality bar and chain oil for proper chain and bar lubrication. As a temporary substitute, a non-detergent SAE30 weight motor oil can be used. The use of a vegetable based bar and chain oil is recommended when pruning trees. Mineral oil is not recommended because it may harm trees. Never use waste oil or very thick oil. These may damage your chain saw. Filling the oil reservoir • Remove the oil cap and fill the reservoir with the recommended chain oil until the oil level has reached the top of the oil level indicator. • Refit the oil cap. • Periodically switch the chain saw off and check the oil level indicator to ensure the bar and chain are being properly oiled.

            Great for small trees!
Was trying to clear some weeds that turn to trees for my neighbor and this did the job.... wouldn't go to Main to be a lumberjack with this, but ok for light stuff. And the battery was surprising for such a small battery of 2ah, but this was my firsthand chain saw, so I'm new to this. But you can see the thickness of the trees I cut..... not real big, but bigger than a pole chain saw should do. And it's light enough for an old man like me :)

              My First Chainsaw
I was trepidatious about using a chainsaw, but I find it a very useful backyard tool. It doesn't sound like a chainsaw, it sounds like a blender, and you just have to read the safety precautions and no messin' get to business. Hold it firm, use it like you mean it. It takes 5 hours to charge the battery, and the charge only lasts 20 minutes of cutting up 2x4's. l'd like if the battery lasted longer, but I'm only using it at home so it's adequate for me. I was also surprised to find the oil leaking out of it overnight, so put it down on top of a wipable surface or you'll have an oily mess or stain on your shed floor. I don't know if maybe I had overfilled the oil or if it always does that, but that's a bit inconvenient if you're taking it in the car to another location. But at least it doesn't have gasoline and engine oil in it. Not smelly at all. It also makes quite a rough cut, lots of ragged splintering edges, fine for firewood and nothing like the finish of a carpenter saw.

Sure is small but will meet my needs. Requires constant attention to chain tension and manual oil feed. I do like its portability and it is relatively quiet There is no variable speed. Only on or off.

It gets the job done, but with only 2 batteries that are only 6 months old, It really can only cut hard for 10 minutes or so. So for small jobs or tasks that you don't mind taking days to complete, it works great. Try using canola oil instead of petro based bar and chain oil!

                  Good but not great.
I gave it a 3 star because if you limit the size of the logs you cut to 5 " dia you will likely be ok. I am on my second saw. The main reason is I tried to use it for 7" dia logs. If you try this for any about of time the saw motor will start to burn. Used carfully you will fine it very useful. By the way the 18" 15amp is a complete beast that will hang with any gas saw. Harry

I have only used it a couple of days, so can't speak to long term durability, but it has exceeded my expectations in function. I've gotten arthritis as I've gotten older and so a gas chainsaw is too much for me. This is well balanced and light weight but comparable to using a gas saw in what I can cut with it. The chain is very easy to tighten (etc) too - unlike the one on my DR pole saw.

pleasantly surprised! sort of impulse bought this as I've been buying more & more of the 20v max line. I already had the trimmer, hedger, sweeper (aka mini-blower), a Porter Cable light & the B&D drill that started it all. I also already had a PoulanPro 262, a popular gas chainsaw that's served me well but wanted to see how this stacked up against it. like all 20v tools the big pluses are low size/weight plus no need to premix fuel or worry about fuel age, periodically running engine just to keep clean, etc. the limitations are power (20v is obviously less than 40 or 60, let alone 50cc gas) & runtime (though that's easily fixed w/5AH aftermarket batteries). like all the 20v tools it's way lighter than it's gas sibling so much easier for wife/kids to use (no, as a matter of course I don't let kids use chainsaw! referring to blower, trimmer & hedger though true of this one as well). SO - specifically re: this chainsaw vs the 262? well, the obvious thing to do was a saw-off so saw-off I did! cut pieces of the same piece of hickory firewood (~4-6") w/both saws - gas Poulan did it in 30s vs 20v B&D took 38s. so 262's 30% faster, right? not quite... see, gas took ~30s to get up to a usable state - it had to be primed, choked, cranked & revved up to run temp! 20v is just squeeze trigger & cut - ZERO startup latency! & that's not even counting fueling! while a full fuel load on the Poulan undoubtedly lasts longer swapping batteries takes ~5s vs gas is easily a minute (assuming you prefer not to set yourself on fire). bottom line - I'm not about to give my Poulan away (hey, if nothing else 18" is still > 10") but having invested in 4 aftermarket 5AH 20v batteries (in addition to all the 2AH ones that came w/my various tools) I have a hard time picturing myself ever using it again. if you already have a gas saw it's probably not worth running out to replace unless your a gadget person w/disposable income but if you're looking for a 1st chainsaw buy this one w/o hesitation! (but get a 5AH off amazon, don't get ripped off on branded low capacity batteries!)

The re-design, the wheel that tightens the chain, is terrific. Very smart, easier to maintain than my old ones. Black & Decker chainsaws are great value for the money. Confession.... I burned out two B&D saws to take down a 75-foot-plus tree (4-foot trunk) that was killed by a hard freeze a few years ago. (Yes, we do get below 25 in Arizona). The landscape company I called wanted $3,000.... so I did it myself... a real Homer! Invested the money in the saws and abused them until they died in service. Put the $2,500 we saved toward our daughter's college fund.

Great tool for backyard cleanup. Easy to assemble. Need to purchase oil to lubricate chain. This is not a toy! Read the safety notices. I have multiple B&D tools that use the same interchangeable lithium battery. Very pleased with the purchase.
