      Paint quality
I purchased a Bilco Classic gray powder coated basement door. to replace an existing Bilco door. The door came neatly packaged with everything included. All items were in good condition and fit as expected. The 3 star rating is solely due to the paint scratching off way to easily and exposing bare metal with no primer visible. after 3-4 weeks rust spots are forming. I will need to reach out for assistance. Think twice about paying extra for the paint! No touch up paint was provided.

        Bilco Powdercoated Cellar door
The overall quality of the door is good, but....I will get to that later. The packaging of the product is excellent in that when I unboxed it, there wasn't a scratch anywhere. It came shipped on a pallet, so that probably helped from anything running into the box. After examining all the parts, it appears that the powdercoat did not look thin in any areas as reported in some reviews in the past. I had to do some preparation to the bulkhead opening as it was built in 1963 and had shown its wear and tear over the years as the front of the bulkhead was about 5/8" lower than the sides. So as veteran DIY and construction expert, I decided to put a fresh cap on the bulkhead to level it out for the brand new bulkhead door. I used a product called CementAll by Rapidset. Very good product that it sets to 9000 psi after 28 days. The assembly of the door is fairly straightforward for those with any experience at assembling things, it goes together with bolts and nuts. The instructions give clear guidance for each step. The only thing I had issue with was one of the gas springs. One of the ends snaps over a ball fastener and there is a metal spring that tightens around the fastener and that failed. I'm going to contact the company to have that replaced (which I have not done as of this review) The other issue that I'm have with the door is that two doors are not flat enough that when I use the Bilco weather strip kit, I can see air gaps from the stripping to the door. If you are wondering if the door squareness might be causing the issue, I got it within 1/32 of squareness ;-) Overall, It seems this a good quality door that it will last another 60+ years (I replaced the original that was installed in 1963)

        Bilco doors defective/bent metal
Just as the doors were close being fully installed we noticed a manufacturer defect that would allow for water to enter easily. The metal was bent in two different places preventing a good seal. Extremely frustrating since it takes a tremendous amount of time and energy to install these doors. Now we have to disassemble the entire unit in order to get them to be returned. Oh, then there's the online services that tell me that customer care is coming out to see the doors and then say I have to package the doors for UPS to pick-up.

Less than a year and it’s rusting!
Openers don’t fully close door. To get watertight seal, we have to disconnect the hydraulic openers or the water just pours in. Biggest complaint is it’s starting to rust in areas and it hasn’t even been 6 months since installed. Nice door BUT, these issues need to be addressed by manufacturer.

This Bulkhead came with missing parts! The pins that hold the hinges on were missing. This was the last step of install after bulkhead was fastened to the concrete. Home Depot said I would have to ship the whole unit back just to get the hinge pins! Also unit did not close well so had to purchase additional weather striping kit.

The door itself is fine but the shock cylinders suck and do not stay in place.

Great product fit exactly into the designated space. A minor amount of caulking for air space is necessary. HD delivered the gasket and I had to pick up the door

After 1.5 years my powder coating started peeling with rust underneath the paint. I life in Utah (dry) - paint was clearly was not applied correctly. And the warranty on the coating only lasts for 1 year. So now I’m sand blasting and needing to repaint. What a pain! Do not get the powder coating…they don’t apply it correctly. Otherwise- this is a great door.

I ordered a basement door (size “C”) powder coated to eliminate the hassle of painting it. A few days after the installation, my wife noticed rust spots on both doors, the rust appears to be coming right through the paint. I have attempted to contact Bilco Company on several occasions but have not heard from anyone. I have sent an email to their costumer service email still waiting for a response.
