Why is this advertising 445 sq in of grilling space? That is a lie. It only has a 20" diameter which equates to about 310 sq in.

                    Answer This Question

Thanks for reaching out. The legs for the Akorn Kamado grills are not removable as these units are not designed to be used in a custom stationary stand.

                    By|May 27, 2025

Yes, legs are separate, unfortunately, ash pan is actually the bottom of the cooker, so you would have to have access.

                        Good luck finding parts!
We bought this grill in 2021 and have used it frequently during the summer and covered when not in use. Now we need to replace some parts: top vent cover, seals, etc. Good luck trying to find replacment parts! Even tried the manufacturer webste and all they offered was a replacement grill. So disappointed! The rest of the grill is in decent shape and it seems wasteful to replace it over some parts which should be available. Buyer beware-if you are looking for a long-term grill you can repair as needed, this isn't it.

                            Love our AKORN…but
Love my AKORN cooker (actually my second)! We use it all the time for low-and-slow smoking to ripping hot searing. But twice now, the architecture supporting the ash pan has burned out requiring either a new ash pan kit…or a whole new cooker. Seems like a design flaw.

Thank you for your feedback. In order to control the temperature of your grill, you need to control the amount of air flow to the fire. By
opening and closing the top and bottom damper, you can adjust the temperature of your grill. The amount of charcoal used when grilling can also greatly impact your ability to control temperature. The more charcoal that ignites, the hotter the grill can be. Due to the efficiency of the design of the Akorn, it is challenging to lower the temperature while cooking. Remember, do not over exceed your desired cooking temperature. Always empty the ash tray after each use once ashes have completely cooled. Empty the ashes into a metal container and cover with water to ensure there are no lit coals. Frequent seasoning prevents rusting. If rusting occurs, clean with a steel brush, apply cooking oil or vegetable shortening and heat as indicated in the pre-seasoning steps.

Akorn auto Kamado is a charcoal grilling breeze!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve had this grill now for almost two years and it cooks like a champ! The functions are easy to control and after setting the temperature it automatically fans to temp and holds within 1 or 2 degrees. Flavors are awesome and the food is always moist and delicious. You won’t regret this purchase!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Have had mine for nearly 10 years. Use it multiple time a week. Use for smoking and grilling. Best all around grill I’ve ever owned. Hand down the best. When/if this one wears out, I’ll buy another.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received my Akorn for Father’s Day three years ago. I’ve owned a few grills over the years, and if I’m being honest, most of my early “BBQ” was just enthusiastic guessing. Then I got the Char-Griller Akorn, and suddenly I went from “guy who brought chips” to “guy everyone asks to cook.” I’m not saying this grill changed my life… but my swordfish has a fan club now. The biggest difference is charcoal flavor done right. The Akorn runs on lump charcoal, and it gives food that real-deal, wood-fire taste — not overpowering, just that subtle smoky depth that makes people stop mid-bite and go, “Wait… what did you do to this?” When I grill swordfish, it picks up this perfect kiss of smoke while still tasting clean and fresh. It’s the kind of flavor you expect from a coastal restaurant, not someone standing in sneakers next to a patio chair. What really surprised me is the heat retention. This thing holds temperature like it has a personal grudge against fluctuation. Once it’s set, it just cruises. That steady heat lets me get a beautiful crust on the outside of the swordfish while keeping the inside tender and juicy. Before the Akorn, my seafood results ranged from “not bad” to “why is this dry?” Now it’s consistently spot-on. The temperature control is also way easier than it looks. The dampers let you dial in the airflow so you can go low and slow or screaming hot. For swordfish, I crank it up and get that steakhouse-style sear that locks everything in. Hearing that sizzle when the fish hits the grate is basically my version of applause. Another win: it’s just easy to live with. It doesn’t burn through charcoal like a bottomless fire pit, and it gets up to temp faster than you’d expect from a kamado-style grill. I spend more time cooking and less time fiddling, which is probably why I got bold enough to start experimenting in the first place. And that’s how the swordfish legend started. One good cook turned into requests, which turned into “Hey, are you bringing the grill?” invitations. I’m still the same person — I just have better equipment now. All credit to the Akorn. It didn’t just upgrade my grill… it upgraded my reputation.

                                        Absolutely Love My Akorn!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve had my Akorn about 3 yrs now and, out of all my grills, it’s my go to grill for all things. It’s a great, reliable cooker and clean up is a breeze. It’s one of those things that I would have to immediately replace if anything were to ever happen to it. If you’re looking for an awesome Kamado grill at a reasonable price, this is it!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After using several different setups over the years, the Kamado Charcoal Grill stands out for its temperature control and durability. I’m particularly impressed with how evenly it distributes heat—no more 'cold spots' in the middle of a cook! It’s a game-changer for anyone from beginners to seasoned pitmasters. Winning the BBQ grill would be the ultimate addition to my outdoor kitchen. Highly recommend!"
