Questions & Answers

Why is this called 'male pipe thread' if both ends are ght?

Asked by: Azdanno
Gads! Am I missing something?....or are the 2 answers preceding mine (above) missing the mark and in the dark just as much as the person asking the question? ...which is OK but it might be worth mentioning in case you really might need it. Its not just a swivel connector but more importantly, it is an adapter that allows the crude clumsy garden hose with its coarse, sloppy thread pattern to conjugate with a hose, pipe or device that uses a different thread pattern, which in this adapter will adapt the hose threads to something, anything with NPT threads. For example, white PVC pipe used for sprinklers. Garden Hose Thread (GHT) is in a class of its own, a very crude, inefficient and insulting pipe thread standard that someone thought long ago needed to be designed as if we were all complete idiots. By design, It is compatible with nothing except other garden hoses so you won't try to inadvertently use it for the wrong application like fuel delivery, pneumatics, hydraulics, etc. a simple crude substandard threading arrangement that is maybe more forgiving to the elements but a complete joke when 95% of all garden hoses ever made leak like a sieve, and the quick to screw on thread pattern which is coarse and few deserves an F+ in machine shop design, but was designed to be idiot proof like the light bulb, with wide coarse threads that keep on threading even after being subjected to abuse by the elements and the operator who wants to smash it because it always leaks. No worries though, there's hope. The new faucet is on the market today and there are no more threads just a compression coupler that you plug n play

Does anyone know if the male end is the same as a faucet thread?

What I’m trying to do is hook up a water filter with a faucet Thead to a hose thread
Asked by: Ryanwhite
Recently installed a number of these. Both ends are faucet thread, but be careful not to cross-thread when attaching. May take a couple of tries to get it to seat correctly.

can you use this for the HOT water intake of a washing machine
Asked by: STUART
No, this fitting should never be installed on a hot water line. Use a brass or metal fitting for hot water. DIG fittings are for outdoor irrigation use only.
