The solenoid is attached (hard wired) to the timer and it looks like a standard solenoid. I am not familiar with the irritol value but if it uses a standard solenoid it should work. Hope this helps.....

Thoughts on using this with a rain barrel system?

I think this is all about pressure. The value may turn on but if there is not enough pressure to "push" the water through the system it will not work. Hope this helps.....

How do I turn automatic watering ON?

First, will it work manually? if you select the manual button will the water actually flow? If not check the flow of water to the valve. Assuming water is flowing to the value, then there is a screw in the center of the valve, make sure that that screw is open (it normally comes in the open position from the factory), also you can try backing off the solenoid a l little to see if that might open up the flow of water through the value. If all the timers are set properly then it should automatically open the value to let the water flow. make sure the rain option is turned off as well as a test. Hope this helps. I have 5 of these around the house and have never had this issue.

can this timer go 30 days between waterings

From what I have seen, it runs on a weekly cycle. You set the days you want it to turn on/off and then the hours you want it on/off (up to 4 per day). You can set even days, odd days, and X days where X is a number from 1-30. So yes you can. I had to test this on a new unit I just purchased and followed the instructions on page 12. Hope this helps.....

3 or 4 run times in day, then off all night?

Yes, you can set up to 4 different on/off times per day and select the day's you want it to go on/off. Hope this helps...

Just installed brand new on main irrigation line. Opened the main and the inlet leaks at about 1 drip every two seconds or so. Opened the valve and the it leaks continuously around half of the valve housing and at the solenoid port. Closed it and opened several times with same effect. Manually tightened the screw on the valve housing and it slowed the leaks, but did not stop it.

This is the perfect irrigation timer for your lawn or any vegetation. I use it for my lawn sprinklers, soaker hose and drip system irrigation. It's full proof by keeping perfect time and operation. I've had one for years and bought a second one for my daughter and her irrigation system. Easy to install and set up. I would recommend to any home owner for their irrigation needs.
