Q:Will my 25-pound terrier/beagle mix be able to push flaps open?
by|Jan 30, 2020
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  The magnets are removable for training purposes which make the flaps easier to use. Based on the tenacity of the average terrier or beagle we do not think your dog will have a problem using the flap. Some people have been known to remove the magnets on the internal flap in the beginning and add them back once their pets are accustomed to using the exterior flap. Here's a link to a YouTube video on how to remove the magnets: https://youtu.be/FYBfDFSAW9Y

    Q:Is the aluminum frame paintable?

    Answer This Question

A:  HI Sherry, Yes the aluminum frame is paintable. We recommend getting the white frame if you are going to paint it as the white will hold the paint better. Regards

Very well made (in the USA) and includes everything; step-by-step instructions, high-quality caulk, a convenient jig-saw bit, and even a small pouch of dog treats for training. It's well designed and packaged with obvious consideration for customers and their fur-babies. The matte black finished frame has a solid, durable feel and the dual doors both have dual plastic panels for weatherization. And although not obviously visible in the pictures, there is black weather stripping around the frame. The magnets provide the perfect hold so that wind, or small animals, won't open it, but aren't too strong for a medium or larger dog to push through the dual doors. The inner-wall frame for the opening is HVAC duct material and assembly of the unit itself is fairly easy, but be advised; cutting an opening in an exterior wall is not for amateurs and professional assistance is your best bet. The security panel slides in and out easily. The only aesthetic problem is the screw covers are white, which is contrast to the matte black, but a spritz of black spray paint before attaching them should remedy that. I have 4 larger cats, including a 17 lb tom but this door is definitely too weighty for any of them. It is, however, perfect for the lucky dog who can slip right out into a fenced yard. We're looking to adopt a new fam member for the holidays, so that's the goal!

Super high quality, and LOVE that it's designed thick enough to accommodate oversized walls. We have 7 1/2" exterior walls, and have had issues finding a tunnel that accommodates them. We already had a dog door installed, so in our case all we had to do was use a reciprocating saw to make the saw opening taller. I like that this "Medium" is a much taller door than our past "Medium" door. We have a standard size lab, but she had to crouch down a bit to make it through our other door, she is MUCH happier with the height of this door. We couldn't go any wider in the space we have to work with, so this worked out perfectly. Super easy to install once you have the hole in your wall. The magnets on both flaps are SUPER strong, which is great for weather-proofing, but even dogs who are used to dog doors are going to need some persuading to go through this the first few times. The kit does come with nice soft training treats to help, and the magnets on the bottom of the flaps are removable so you can train them to go through without any magnets, then add one, then the other. Our pup is used to dog doors so it just took some enthusiastic calling to get her to come through. If you don't have a good set of cordless tools (reciprocating saw, drill/impact) you might want to hire this job out. Especially if you aren't familiar with moving electrical if you have wires running through your wall. But if you're decently handy, this should take you just a couple hours to put in (assuming you don't already have an opening like we did. It does come with a small tube of clear caulking, which is also nice and a bit unusual for other kits. My only complaint is that the door we got is dark in color, but the little plugs for the bolt holes are white? Seems like they should definitely match, especially for the price. Also, there isn't a good way to cut off the extra length of the bolts unless you have a re-thread kit to fix up the threads after you cut down the all-thread. So we did end up nicking all four exterior corners with our cutting wheel. Overall though a VERY solid dog door. This thing should last forever.
