Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is my 2nd thermometer and both worked very well.... This is my 2nd thermometer and both worked very well. (I accidentally damaged the first when I forgot to remove it prior to turning the compost - oops!) They have a good temperature range, respond reasonably quickly, the color coded ranges allow for quick checks and I liked the long metal sensor.

Compost Thermometer was ordered online (Home Depot) but, was picked up at my nearest Home Depot store. It was unpacked at the store, I made sure it isn't bent but, when got home pushed it into compost and the needle moved counterclockwise- it can not be! A good thermometer would move clockwise to the temperature it displays not counterclockwise! I'm not taking it to Home Depot because they'he told me "we do not replace or refund". I think this is bad customer service, all I can say about this purchase. Don't buy this product or any other on their website - Home Depot's.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worked for less than a month. Ordered two; put both in compost pile and they read reasonably the same T and seemed to work for about a week or two. Left in the pile during freezing weather, and both topped out at the MAXIMUM and have not come down. Very disappointed in these; a waste of money.

This product did not work and arrived bent, which I think had nothing to do with function. The needle did react to heat and cold and I think that somehow the paper gauge was misaligned with the needle resulting in a dial at rest with the needle on 180. I returned it and got an immediate refund.

This product works well and no problems with it but I've only had it a short time. My concern is it doesn't seem as durable as one I already have that cost about the same. I would recommend it and I would buy again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Seemed to work, but reading was incorrect Picked it up at store. Took it out of box at home, in room temperature (68 degrees) it was reading 180 degrees. Left it outside in about 25 degree weather, it read about 145 degrees. It seemed to be working properly, but the reading was inaccurate, apparently because the dial scale was not oriented properly. Returned it to store and asked that a replacement be shipped to my home. Said that I did not want to pay shipping for the replacement. Store personnel (politely) said they could not waive the shipping charge. But, they called homedepot.com; rep waived shipping charge, no problem.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Broke upon first use. The first day i took it home and put it in the compost pile...worked like a charm. Pulled it out of the first 2 piles just fine... pulled it out of the third pile and the head broke off....very poor quality or a defective unit.
