However, we're sorry to hear the agitator comes off during heavy loads. We understand that would be frustrating, and we'd love to help you!
The agitator could come off the base if not seated properly. It can easily be snapped back in place by lining up the grooves in the agitator auger with the agitator base, then turning it counter-clockwise until it locks into place.
Load dry items loosely in the washer basket. For best results, load items evenly and loosely around the outside of the basket, filling in towards the center on larger loads.

Horrible for large family & bulky clothes
With the automatic weighing of clothes to fill for water and “balance” it will not spin out properly if there are bulky clothes like hoodies, lined sweats, etc in the load. We have to rearrange the clothes almost every load and “drain & spin” several times before it will actually spin out! SOoooo frustrating and also to mention the waste of water we have to use to do that. We will spread out clothes out in the washer before it starts but it still won’t spin out. Can not chose load size and fill according to what you want, it will chose that for you or you have to chose “deep fill” such a pain! I do not recommend for a family that washes lots of jeans, hoodies, sweat pants and sweat shirts! If I could I would sell it immediately and get a new one! It is also chipping on the main part where the knobs are.

It is a rod and spring floating suspension, designed to withstand extensive out of balance situations without the need for an "out of balance" switch.
Anti-Vibration Pads may be a good option for you to try. The part number is WX17X10001CA.

Washer Agitator goes Rouge...
The clothes come out clean but at a price. A critical piece in the center of the tub,the washer agitator, keeps coming loose and interrupts the wash cycle. The spin cycle is also loud and off balance with a loose washer agitator bouncing around among the clothing. We're thinking of returning this washer if a fix can't be found...

While we’re glad your clothes are getting clean, we truly hate to hear you’ve had an issue with the agitator becoming loose, as well as concerns over the noise made in the spin cycle and the washer becoming out-of-balance. We know those matters would be worrying, and we’d like to assist.
Agitators in recent models are designed to be slightly loose, to allow it to flex with the clothes in a heavier load. But as your agitator is becoming completely disconnected, arranging for a service appointment is recommended. That department is available at 1-800-432-2737 or an appointment can be scheduled online at https://www.geappliances.com/ge/service-and-support/service.htm . We are confident a technician would be able to properly review this, and make the necessary repairs.
Ensuring the agitator is properly attached will likely help with the noise level, and make it easier for the washer to stay balanced. In general a newer model may have different sounds than you might have been used to with a former model; if it might be helpful, we do have a list of normal noises for the unit on page 28 of the manual: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-3000187-2.pdf . Regarding the out-of-balance condition, checking that the washer is level, and adjusting the leveling legs if necessary, will also help with avoiding that.
