About This Product

The 2014 National Electric Code has mandated Ground Fault and Arc Fault circuit protection on many 15 Amp and 20 Amp kitchen and laundry circuits. General Electric and apposes Dual Function Circuit Interrupter (DFCI) offers both Ground Fault and Combination Arc Fault (GFCI and Amp; CAFCI) protection in a simple to apply and cost-effective solution. GFCI protection guards against ground faults are an effective means of preventing electrical shocks. GFCI circuit breakers accomplish this by detecting when current is "leaking" somewhere outside its intended path. If your body provides the path to ground for this "leakage" you could be burned, shocked or even electrocuted. CAFCI protection guards against damage or fires which can result from arcing and sparking that can arise from deteriorated wires, poor connections and breaches in wire insulation. With more than 67,000 home fires claiming more than 485 lives and injuring 2,300 victims annually, the added safety provided by CAFCI protection is an important step forward in reducing this risk.

  • GE DFCI has important features for assisting you or your electrician in troubleshooting a trip, should the DFCI trip, the LED will indicate the last known trip condition
  • The test feature allows you to test the arc and ground detection capability by depressing a rocker switch in two directions.
  • Unit's last known trip condition can be cleared by performing a series of functions provided in the instructions
  • DFCI has a self-test feature that meets a June 2015 requirement from UL on all ground fault circuit breakers

Q:3 questions: Will these work in an older PowerMark Plus Load Center? Also will they work in house with knob and tube wiring that has a shared neutral? If so do you need to use 2 of them on both sides of the circuit ( red and black hots)?

A:  It did not work for me. All mechanical switches and contacts arc. I had to get just a GFI without the arc sensor.

A:  Thank you for your question. Yes the THQL1120DFP is compatible with all GE 200amp load centers.

A:  Hi - Unfortunately, the picture of your panel is so small that I can't read all the writing. That label should say what series of breakers it uses - stick with GE breakers for a GE panel. For reference, the current model of 200A GE outdoor panel does uses THQL or THQP breakers - in regular, arc fault or ground fault styles. The panel comes with a few THQP series (THQP115 and THQP230) breakers to get you started. So, please look at the label carefully until you find the listing of compatible breakers and then, once you know that, look for the size and style of breaker that you need.

AFCI or GFCI are now required in many cases. Why not be safer and get BOTH for only a couple of bucks over what a single function unit costs? I upgraded my laundry room to the latest code - just because I could. The cost over the life of the device, is mere pennies per year.

It worked on a new home run to a 1971 circuit panel. Much better than arc faults used to be.

This is a very sensitive breaker. When I installed mine, it kept tripping and I didn’t understand why. After tracing the wires back to the outlet, I found a section of wire that had worn through and was touching a heater vent duct. I replaced the wire and the new breaker did not trip.
