by|Dec 29, 2018
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: The model IRT659K infrared thermometer has a maximum detection limit of 1202°F (650°C). As long as the wood stove does not exceed that temperature limit, this model should work fine. - General Tools Technical Support

Easy to Use IR Thermometer
I recently upgraded my temperature measurement instruments with a new General Tools Infrared Thermometer with K-Type Thermocouple (IRT659K). The instructions are concise and easy to understand the different modes and functions. A fabric case is included to store the thermometer and thermocouple. The backlit LCD screen is great for use in dark conditions.
The IR Thermometer is ideal for monitoring electrical equipment for possible overheating. I use it to monitor the temperature in the attic and use the thermocouple for checking the airflow temperature in the air conditioner. The accuracy is +/- 3 degree F or 2%, whichever is greater. It is certainly not an appropriate tool if exact temperature measurements are required. However, it’s a very useful tool for identifying hot spots or obtaining a surface temperature. Highly recommended!
IR Thermometer is useful for professional and domestics jobs
I always wanted to get an IR thermometer for domestic purposes. I went to my local Home Depot many times over the years to research these and found that they are packaged mostly for HVAC professionals, mechanics, and service techs. However, there shouldn't be any reasons that folks like you and I can't use these same tools for domestic uses around the house. For instance, I decided to use this see how hot my shower water gets. Doing so, I was able to adjust my water heater to the appropriate temp. I also used it to see if my BBQ was getting proper heat distribution. I did an example in my attached photos. I tested the cold temp of my range and then turned a burner on to see how hot it gets. As you can see, there are many uses for this IR thermometer.
I found the directions to be easy to read and follow. The thermometer is build very well. Sturdy, high-grade plastic housing, strong laser, bright display, and a very nice case.
Great for multiple uses, difference in room temperature etc., actually pretty interesting, finding the coolest place for my dog. Seems accurate, like the probe feature. Those who are having problems with case not fitting are putting it in wrong way, it's a little snug at first, but works in, flap closes completely, no problem.

The scanner itself performs exactly as claimed in a variety of applications. The only reason for "Good" rating rather than "Excellent" is simply that the tool and its carrying pouch are a total miss match. Tool barely fits into said pouch and the hook pad and latch pad come nowhere close to connecti

Nice tool
Only reason I will not give it a 5 star is the case is such a tight fit. I do like the probe and how easy it is to use. I am a maintenance technician and use it on everything from a/c units to checking if a refrigerator is cooling to the proper temperature

Does what it should
This thermometer functions as expected. The thermometer and the K probe are both very responsive. It also comes with a very nice case which is large enough the fit the K probe but not much else.
Not having a proper fitting case may prove to be a problem over time because of the environments I'll be using this in so I'll have to buy a case to fit and use this one for something else.
