Q:Plastic or metal? Which are better for holding down base sheet in preparation for Self-Adhering Cap Sheet?

Answer This Question

A:  Plastic

A:  These caps perform best holding down or securing tar paper or house wrap , and or even synthetic underpayment. They can be used to secure tarps as well though I would recommend a longer spike. The cap can become weathered and brittle over time if exposed to the elements

Q:Can they be used for shingles

      Answer This Question

A:  No, this product is designed for use with housewrap, sheathing and roofing felt.

      by|May 5, 2023

A:  They could but I would not recommend it. The plastic degrades when exposed to sunlight and the elements, leaving you with just the nail after about a year. Additionally, they stick up enough that they would allow bugs, etc, to nest easily under the shingle.

        by|Jul 30, 2023

A:  Not for shingles. these are for sheeting and tar paper only.

Good for securing any roofing product where a nail head might tear through the material. Cap distributes pressure evenly over a greater surface area. Ribbed nail shaft lessens nail backing out over time. I used them to secure plastic wall paneling. Worked great!

The product worked very well I used these on a pretty breezy day (my first run of paper had already been blown off the roof using standard flooring nails )I switched to these and with the wider holding surface they held the paper down with no more problems I did get 5 or 6 that were shorter and missing the plastic but all in all worked great
