About This Product

SCALA2 is a fully integrated water booster pump providing perfect water pressure in all taps at all times - even with multiple taps and showers running at the same time. It packs pump, motor, tank, sensor, drive and non-return valve into one compact unit. And with its intelligent pump control, SCALA2 automatically adjusts performance to both inlet pressure and water consumption in the home. Thanks to a water-cooled motor, SCALA2 even offers one of the lowest noise levels of any booster on the market. SCALA2 features a built-in sensor, which constantly measures the discharge pressure. If the pressure drops below the desired level, SCALA2 boosts its operation immediately to compensate for the loss of pressure. We call it intelligent pump control and the result is perfect water pressure.

Q:Do I need a separate pressure tank from storage tank to my house.

Answer This Question

A:  The Scala series product is used in a few different applications. There are some where you might use an additional diaphragm tank, so I don’t want to give you a definitive no. But in most applications, you would not use an additional diaphragm tank because the Scala has one built in. That is kind of what makes it unique. It is a modulating pump, diaphragm pressure tank and pressure switch built into one product. If you connect it to a pond, river, shallow well or storage tank it will pull in water and pressurize the small internal tank. When a faucet is opened the diaphragm will push water out of this tank into the system to supply water to that faucet. Immediately the pressure switch will sense the pressure drop and spin up the pump to match the demand for water and continue the flow. When the faucet is closed the pressure switch will spin the pump down and leave the small internal tank pressurized to satisfy the next demand for water. Chris 978 651 3301

Q:I know nothing about this pump, sorry. It was here when we bought our home within the last couple of years. Never had this before. Sorry, with that said, our pump has been running out water for the last several hours without showing signs of stopping

    Answer This Question

A:  Had five of these pumps over 5 years. Work good for 6 months then they start leaking more and more. Not repairable pumps. Would also ramp up line pressure and damaged plumbing valves. Good idea but bad product. Not recommend it to friends.

A:  This pump can be used in a variety of applications. It can act as a shallow well pump or as a pressure booster. Without greater detail about the application it is not possible for me to offer a diagnosis. If it is being used as a shallow well pump and you aren’t getting water, my first guess would be that you have lost your prime or that the well has gone dry. If it’s being used as a pressure booster, you should still get water even if the pump fails. Most of the problems associated with this product are application based. Often people are dissatisfied with their water flow rate and assume they have a pressure problem. They don’t realize pressure is invisible. You measure pressure with a gauge with the water off; you can’t see pressure. What you see is volume. Inadequate volume is corrected by adding buffer storage, not by upping the pressure. For example my home has very high water pressure, but the water just trickles out of the shower head because the water main is inadequate. Raising the pressure would not fix this. You are welcome to give me a call and we can talk about your specific situation. Perhaps with further information we could determine the cause. Chris 978 651 3301

A:  Can't help much but I have been using my pump for almost 2 years without any problem. Lack of water probably suggests inadequate flow from the source. Add a pressure gauge between the source and the pump and if low, contact your supplier. Also, check any filters between the source and the pump. Finally, check the pumps error code. Finally, early models (4/5 years old) have been reported to generate bearing/impeller issues.

Q:My well pumps water into a 500 gallon storage tank in my garage. Will it pump the water from the tank into the house

A:  It might or should work ... My use is for landscape irrigation and is controlled by timer ... Your application would need a float switch to turn pump on and off. Read the Scala manual on line for limitations on lift of this pump and recommendations ... Good luck.

A:  I want to start by saying thanks to the the member of the community for there answer. Well done and thoughtful. I do want to make one small correction. The Grundfos MQ series and Scalla series units can draw a vacuum. Meaning they can be used as shallow well pumps and pull water "up hill" so to speak. For example they can be used to pull water out of a lake or pond to provide water to a seasonal cabin or other such application. However when possible it is always better to have gravity bring the water supply to the pump rather than sucking it in. The important point is this. Both the MQ and Scalla product are extremely unique and can be very useful solutions in certain applications. But as the member of the community pointed out they are rather like disposable appliances rather than fixtures. I liken them to a blender. They perform a function but when they break you buy new one you don't fix them. I have talked to quite of a few people who have had great results with them but expected a longer life. To those customers I recommend the CMBE series as a replacement. It is a commercial version of this technology and is designed for a much longer life. It is what i would refer to as a fixture rather than an appliance. It is also available on the Home Depot web site. Being that it is much more substantial it is also more expensive.

            by|Apr 8, 2020

A:  Yes it will. The pump must be below the water level in the tank so gravity will allow the booster pump to have some water pressure, then the it can draw the water from the tank and boost the pressure. If your tank was below ground the booster pump it would not suck the water up to the booster pump mounted at ground level. In that case the booster pump would need to be mounted in a basement or something. My tank sits in a pump house on a cement slab far away from the house. The booster pump sits on the slab next to the tank. As long as my water level is above the pump it works fine. The nice thing about this booster pump is it will shut down if your tank is empty, preventing it from running dry and burning the pump. I have plenty of consistent water pressure inside the house. Buy the extended warranty if you can. My last pump lasted a month or so over two years. I had not purchased the warranty so was forced to purchase a second booster pump as I was told that it could not be rebuilt. I was so mad at Grundfos I swore I would not buy another one, but there was nothing better on the market that I could find so I bought a new one with the extended 3 year warranty. At least it will be 5 years before I have to fork out money to replace the pump. I honestly think this is the perfect solution for your application and it is a really great booster pump. Good luck with your project.

                Leaking under the housing
I had only had a Scala2 pump for two years when it started leaking, the factory customer service are poor and hard to find a part.

                  Poor Quality
I have had 3 of these. All have failed in about a 2 year time frame. Common problems are, failure of the shaft seal. Cracks/leaks in the front housing. Parts are hard to get. I love the technology, VFD etc but it is not worth the time and cost.

This booster pump works good for 3 to 4 years and then has problems/failure. This is my third Grunfos pump in 6 years. Grundfos does not respond to the contact on their wed site and no will work on it. Knowing this consiter you investment.

                    Short Usage Lifetime
Installed this pump in 2016. It has suddenly stopped working this summer. It has been in a clean, indoor environment. I've made sure the impeller can turn, the check valve is clean, power supply is in spec, inflow is still 20PSI, and it just will not 'boost'. Continues to attempt RESET. While out of warranty, the reliability and lifetime is shorter than I would expect from Grundfos.

I have not used this pump yet as I bought...
I have not used this pump yet as I bought it as a spare pump for a home water system. I can say that the shipping was very fast and the pump packaging was in excellent condition. I have every expectation that the pump will work when needed. am currently using the same pump for the last 18 months and it works very well not having a large pressure tank to deal with. The pump draws water out of an underground 1000 gallon cistern feeding into the home water system. The pressure and volume are constant as more water outlets are turned on in the home. I would recommend this pump to anyone looking for a pressure boost to a home water system. Home Depot price was significantly less than other suppliers for the same model pump. Thank Home Depot!

Ordered online and picked up at local HD store. Easy install, and it’s quiet and functions well. Replaced a 2-year old Scala2 that started grinding and leaking. Hope this one lasts longer.

                      Good until it leaks
This pump is great until it leaks and Grundfos is impossible to contact. I’ve called any number I could find and written multiple emails. No response. What good is a warranty when they are impossible to contact? I can not recommend purchasing this product because if you ever have an issue you can’t get ahold of them.
