SCALA2 208-230-Volt Booster Pump

$ 674 57

Overview

SCALA2 is a fully integrated water booster pump providing perfect water pressure in all taps at all times – even with multiple taps and showers running at the same time. It packs pump, motor, tank, sensor, drive and non-return valve into one compact unit. And with its intelligent pump control, SCALA2 automatically adjusts performance to both inlet pressure and water consumption in the home. Thanks to a water-cooled motor, SCALA2 even offers one of the lowest noise levels of any booster on the market. SCALA2 features a built-in sensor, which constantly measures the discharge pressure. If the pressure drops below the desired level, SCALA2 boosts its operation immediately to compensate for the loss of pressure. We call it intelligent pump control and the result is perfect water pressure.

Is the Scala pump effected by pure water( ie DI or RO) or by the various pH ranges ( 5.0 to 8) ?
Asked by: GB
Those parameters should not effect the pump. So if this is just a residential system where you prefer your water filtered you should be good. My concern would be if this were a laboratory facility where ultra pure water is used this pump may not meet those requirements. In those situations you need very special equipment so that infinitesimally small amounts of containment leaching our of the plumbing do not change the characteristics of the water.

Two questions: (1) What is the difference between the 208-230 volt and the 115 volt, both available at Home Depot? (2) Static pressure coming into the house is 30PSI. Will this work to boost pressure if I install in the basement and have 2 floors above the basement? Or should I purchase a booster with a tank?
Asked by: Brett
In the US most electrical appliances are 115 Volt, single phase, 60 cycles. Think of almost any electrical appliance you plug into the wall. However larger appliances like stoves, dryers and water heaters are often wired at higher voltages because they use more energy. The reason is that if you tried to send the amount of electricity that these larger appliance need at the lower voltage the wires would either get to hot or need to be to be so thick that it would be impractical. So in summation the higher the voltage the more energy you can safely send through the same size wire. In Europe they use the hire voltage on almost all appliances. However this makes a an accidental shock a much more dangerous situation. So in the US we use lower voltage. Let me point out your energy costs will be the same regardless. I have seen a number of on line posts suggesting you get twice as much power for the same price when you up the voltage. This is not true. Truth be told we never planned on carrying these in 230 Volts. Grundfos shipped our first order incorrectly. We ordered 115 volt and they shipped the wrong ones. While waiting for Grundfos to correct the mistake we made the higher voltage product available . They sold so well that we ended up with none to return and thus kept it available. As to question two. This unit will up your pressure. A jet pump with a tank will do the same. Typically the tank offers some buffer storage so that the pump will not turn off an on. Grundfos being the largest pump company in the world has developed electronics that will effectively control the pump with out the need for a storage tank. However keep in mind no pump will pull water in from the street. You must take the water at the rate the city gives it to you. So if in additions to a pressure problem you also have a volume problem you may need some buffer storage. In my home the pressure is well over 100 PSI but my flow is awful due to the age of my water main. It is clogged with rust due to its age. Thus I added a well tank to act as storage to solve my problem; no pump was needed. My recommendation is to measure the pressure, which you have done, and then time how long it take to fill a five gallon bucket down near the water meter. Once you know the pressure and flow rate in Gallons per minute you can determine if you need a pump, water storage or a combination of the two.

I'm replacing a pump that finally gave out after 15 years. It was in line with a large water holding tank. Does this pump require the tank? Can it be used with the tank? I was told that having the tank helps limit wear and tear on the pump.

The water line from the tank to the home is 150 feet in length with a 15 foot rise in height. I did not want to have to place a pump in a "pump house" by the tank but wanted one that could be placed in the home. Did a lot of research on potential pumps that could provide sufficient suction (Head) to accomplish this. Connected the the SCALA2 two weeks ago and its working like a dream. Draws the water from the tank and provides more than enough output pressure. Absolutely no problems with its running or leaks. Initially I just set it down on the concrete floor and started it up without fasting it or any rubber pads and it runs smoothly and extremity quietly.

According to Grundfos homedepot is not a authorized distributor. this means i must ship the unit to Grundfos and pay 2 way shipping which is troublesome but the worst part is Grundfos was ZERO help when i informed them that i did not have a bypass for the pump so the water to my home will have to be turned off for at minimum 7 days to get a replacement. I offered to purchase a second pump from Grundfos and after receipt return this one for a warranty claim. they would not allow me to do that! Terrible customer service and warranty program.

I only wish they would have steered me to this model the first time. The pump they told me I needed on the first purchase did not have adjustable pressure valve so it delivered too much pressure for the connected device. This one did exactly what I needed.

The pump works exactly as promised and has dramatically improved the water pressure in the house, which started at a measly 32psi. Despite how powerful the pump is, it is also surprisingly quiet. We are so glad to finally have water!
