No! The description of the product clearly states "Never use Home-Flex underground products inside buildings.
Hi, BigRay - The bend radius of our 1" underground pipe is 30". For more information and installation tips, check out our Home Flex Underground Installation & Design Manual at http://homeflex.com/downloads/HOME-FLEX_Underground_Manual.pdf.
Hi, DIY2020 - We have not had any reports of rodents chewing through our PE pipe but it stands to reason that they could. We surmise that the rodents are somewhat small and their bite cannot fit around the diameter of the pipe enough for them to actually bit the pipe.
Hi, Butch - Absolutely! Please check out out HomeFlex Underground Design & Installation Manual for many product details and installation tips. http://homeflex.com/downloads/HOME-FLEX_Underground_Manual.pdf. If you have any questions and/or require any further information, please contact our Technical Service Department M-F 8a-5p Pacific time at (661) 257-3923 x 1026 (Jon) or 1010 (Dave). Thanks.
I would not drink out of this!!!! It is approved for natural gas.
Hi Mike. Our MDPE yellow poly gas pipe is D2513, PE2708 and it can be fusion bonded to socket fusion and butt fusion fittings in accordance with ASTM F2620.
Hi, CJ – Thanks for the inquiry. Home-Flex Underground products are sold and used everywhere in the US, including extreme northern states. We have never received any negative feedback on our product due to temperature issues. You state that the operating temperatures are 0 – 140f (assuming you got those figures from the Home Depot website). According to our company submittal sheet (http://homeflex.com/downloads/HOME-FLEX_Underground_Pipe_Submittal.pdf) it’s actually -20f - +140f. I appreciate you pointing that out and we will research the HD site and make necessary corrections. As for the riser situation . . . yellow gas poly pipe is never to be used above the code-recommended burial level (which is usually 12" to 18" but can be as deep as 24"). Sweeping it up from below surface to above ground is not allowed. Suggest you look at our 90 bent meter riser (p/n 18-440-705) https://www.homedepot.com/p/HOME-FLEX-1-2-in-IPS-Poly-DR-9-3-to-3-4-in-MIP-Underground-Steel-Meter-Riser-Bent-18-440-705/308813564. As there is a metal sleeve coming out of the ground, animals (such as red squirrels as you mentioned) would not be able to chew through it. As the end of the fixture has common pipe threads, you can use off-the-shelf black iron fittings to finish your connection. Here’s the link to our Home Flex Underground Design & Installation manual for many installation tips. http://homeflex.com/downloads/HOME-FLEX_Underground_Manual.pdf. Hope this helps, but if you would like to discuss, please feel free to contact me (Dave) at our Valencia, CA location from 8a – 2:30p M-F at (661) 257-3923 x 1026. Thanks again!
I’m not sure if gophers would bother this, but the pipe is very thick. My experience is that this needs to be buried more than 24-30” deep to meet code. Not likely a gopher will go that deep but it’s possible. FYI I’ve had gophers in an area where mine is buried but to my knowledge they have not messed with it. I’m 30” deep.
Hi, Bryan - Our HomeFlex PE gas pipe is specially formulated for use with liquified gas and natural gas only. It is deemed "experimental" for use in any other applications and, therefore, the consumer takes on all responsibility for its use. There is nothing in the chemical make up of the product that would be harmful and the pipe can certainly handle pressures associated with normal water delivery. However, as stated, you would take responsibility for this as an "experimental" use of our product.
Hi, JMac - Putting the HFUG gas pipe in a pvc sleeve would be somewhat redundant and costly. We always recommend that you consult the codes for your local area keeping in mind ASTM D2774 "Standard Practice for Underground Installation of Thermoplastic Pressure Piping." Generally, rocks over 1/2" should be removed and a smooth, flat, somewhat sandy base be used and the trench immediately around the pipe itself should also be backfilled with the same type of sandy soil. Your local codes and/or inspector may require something different however, so that is why it's highly recommended you check your local codes.
