                Answer This Question

                A:  First, the key only turns 1/4 to the right, not the left. I finally figured it out myself what the problem was. The directions say to "push in on the black tabs on the latches". What they SHOULD say is "lift up the black tabs". When I lifted them up, the latches popped open. I turned the key 1/4 turn to the right and the lid lifted without any problem.

                  A:  You must turn the key to the left 1/4 turn (90 degree clockwise). Now the chest is unlocked and you may remove the key. Now you can open and lift the lid. Everyone has been happy with its size, capacity and weight; can the locking mechanism be replaced? Could an exterior latch for a padlock be installed to this unit without compromising its resistance to fire?

                      Extremely faulty lock and key
                      Have had this for almost a year with very little use. Noticed a few months ago that it started getting stuck a bit but didn't think it'd get like this, especially after barely any use. Now it took me a whole hour just to open this horrible safe. Now I don't want to close it because I think it'll jam shut permanently. Incredibly bad product...should've looked at reviews before purchasing. Do not recommend.

                          Mechanical Failure in less than 6 months
                          I bought this product in January of 2021 and by mid-July 2021 the locking mechanism would no longer properly engage to either lock or unlock. Extremely disappointed in this mediocre performance but you get what you pay for. Do not buy this product if you plan on having a quality firebox for document storage.
