Questions & Answers

can I replace 1/2 hp. unit with the 1/3 hp. will the collars be the same
ByOct 12, 2025

Answer This Question

Hi Chris, we’re glad you reached out! Yes, you can replace your 1/2 HP disposer with a 1/3 HP model. If your disposer is also an InSinkErator, the mounting assembly or sink collar is a universal part, which means it will fit all InSinkErator disposers. If the mounting assembly is still in good condition, you can continue to use it with your new disposer. If you’re interested, we have a guide on our support page that explains how to install a replacement disposer (https://support.insinkerator.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/576).

Does it have a dishwasher connection
    BySep 25, 2025

    Answer This Question

Hi Azhs, thanks for the question. Yes, this garbage disposer has a dishwasher inlet to connect your dishwasher for draining. However, please note that the dishwasher connector kit (model #: DWC-00) is not included and must be purchased separately. If you'd like to see how to knock out the plug on the dishwasher inlet, you can watch our YouTube video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0WTUcp85_0. The instructions about the knockout plug start at the 3-minute mark.

My drain pipe goes straight into the side of disposal
        ByAug 28, 2025
        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

Hi Joyce, if you're currently using a straight pipe, please make sure that the discharge outlet of the garbage disposer is higher than the drain pipe in the wall to allow the water to flow freely. Water going into the disposer needs to flow downward from the unit. If you have questions, please feel free to contact our Customer Service team at https://support.insinkerator.com/app/ask.

Will this work for my home? Here’s a picture of the old garbage disposal? What all do I need to have it replaced?
          ByJul 27, 2025

          Answer This Question

Hi! Thanks for reaching out. We're sorry, but we are unable to see the picture of your old garbage disposer. However, the Badger 100 is a space-saving compact design, and its 1/3 horsepower motor is ideal for light food waste, making it a reliable choice for smaller households. All the necessary parts to install the disposer under the sink are included in the box. Also, this unit is non-corded and suitable for hardwired installation, but you can purchase the power cord (model: CRD-00) if you need to plug the disposer into a power outlet. If you have additional questions, you can reach out to us at https://support.insinkerator.com/app/ask.

What model replaces Badger Model 9 ?

                  Answer This Question

Hi eaw1973, Thank you for your inquiry. The replacement model for your Badger 9 disposer is the Power 900, which also features a ¾ horsepower motor. It is approximately 2 inches wider than your current unit, but the connections and plumbing align the same under the sink, so the replacement should still be straightforward.

Pure Garbage. Avoid Insinkerator and Home Depot
Absolute garbage. The housing split and flooded the cabinet bottom. Inferior product that neither Home Depot or Insinkerator wants to stand by. Better off going elsewhere. Very disappointed.

Replaced my 12 year old badger with same model. Works as advertised with easy install and same features and plumbing hook ups as before. Used sparingly and installed for about 3 months.

Worked fine for 6 years, started leaking
Wont let me upload my video of the leaks which shows leak locations. Bottom of this is a flat piece of metal with screws and clips. The clips have water leaking at about 1 drop per 5 seconds if you run water. Eventually it drips itself out of water. After 7 years of normal use, this thing leaks? LEAKS?!?!? Not the motor going out, not over heating or getting a jam... it leaks... Unbelievable. So sick of modern products failing so quickly. Nearly everything I buy is garbage.

                      Response from InSinkEratorFeb 13, 2025
Hi Nate, thank you for posting your review, and we're sorry about your experience with our product. Sometimes, when it appears the disposer is leaking from the bottom, the water is leaking from a higher place, like the mounting assembly. Please check our troubleshooting guide here: https://support.insinkerator.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/578. If it appears to be coming straight from the bottom, unfortunately, the unit will need to be replaced. While this product should provide many years of service, factors like water quality and usage can sometimes impact the product's longevity. We understand your frustration, and we apologize for the inconvenience. If we can do anything else for you, please contact our customer service team via https://support.insinkerator.com/app/ask.

                        This is a replacement
I had the previous model installed in 10/2018. It turns out I had to have it replaced because it stopped working. I don’t know why it stopped working, but the inside was all rusted (I have pictures). It was replaced 3/2024.

                            Rusts out fast!
The motor works fine and the install is easy. Unfortunately, this is the 2nd Badger 500 unit that rusted completely out and caused to leak down into the electrical compartment and out into the cabinet below. Clearly a manufacturing defect. This part should NOT rust so fast. Learned my lesson. Won't be replacing with this brand again or from Home Depot. It's not budget or earth friendly if it won't last. Truly a waste of a motor and other parts nearly new that continue to fill landfills.

Hi JustLP, thanks for leaving your comments, and we’re sorry to hear about your Badger 500 that rusted. Exposure to water that sometimes appears to be coming from the bottom but might be coming from a higher place, like the mounting assembly is likely the cause of the rust. Additionally, our disposers can usually be recycled at a metal recycling center. The typical InSinkErator disposer is constructed of 80% metal, which can readily be recycled by a scrap metal dealer. If we can do anything else for you, feel free to reach us at https://support.insinkerator.com/app/ask.

Wish they used more stainless steel to extend life
Installing my 3rd Badger 500 in 6 years due to leaking from corrosion (avg life 2 years). I bought the 2 year replacement warranty this time for $18. You can see how well the stainless grinders hold up compared to the thin galvanized steel. Insinkerator claims a life of 6-8 years which I would be fine with but 2 years is too short. I understand they are watching cost, but I have no problem paying a little more if they just replaced this one part with stainless steel that corrodes quickly.

Hi Joseph, thanks for sharing your experience with us. The amount of rust or discoloration varies and is dependent on usage and what may have been put through the disposer. The water quality, use of aggressive cleaning solutions, or even grinding of acidic foods can speed up discoloration. The life of an InSinkErator® Disposer is entirely dependent upon service conditions and usage patterns, just as is expected with other small home appliances. If you need further assistance, please contact us via https://support.insinkerator.com/app/ask.
