Q:Can this be used as a refrigerator water line reducer?

Answer This Question

A:  Works great for my fridge

by|Mar 22, 2022

A:  It is my opinion that the "cylindrical" nature of the internal construction of the valve opening that it would have a non-linear response to regulate water flow, i.e., a small turn of the valve would not create a small amount of water flow. Having the valve half open probably would not give you a 50% flow through the valve. If you want to take some time to adjust it and can see the output as you adjust the valve before attaching it to the fridge, then you could probably get it to the flow you want. But the lack of a linear response would make visual adjustment of the flow necessary, I think.

A:  While the John Guest 1/4 in. O.D. Polypropylene Push-to-Connect Valve can be used as a valve for a fridge water line it is ¼” on both sides and will not reduce the line. Something like the John Guest water line kit may be a more suitable solution to running a water line from an existing stop valve to a refrigerator. https://www.homedepot.com/p/John-Guest-Ice-Maker-Water-Supply-Kit-Universal-80534/315856801

A:  No as it is for 1/4” OD poly tube on both sides.

A:  When the handle is inline with the valve (as in product photo). Perpendicular is closed. This is standard for ball type valves (gas, air, water, etc).

A:  For the John Guest 1/4 in. O.D. Polypropylene Push-to-Connect Valve you rotate the handle clockwise to close the valve and counter clockwise to open the valve. The valve is open when the handle is parallel with the tubing.”
