Q:Can this kit work for an 18? door?
by|Nov 23, 2022
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  It can be cut down to work for an 18 inch door, but I don't know that you would want to use a single door that small for a pass through opening.

A:  You would just buy this jamb kit and cut it down to fit the smaller door.

Q:Does this attach to the metal pocket door kits (from the johnson brand)...and if so, how does it? Do I need to purchase special supplies?

        Answer This Question

A:  If you are talking about our 1500SC and 1500HD frames with all-steel studs, yes, this will work with those, as long as they are for doors 36" by 80" or smaller. The 1500SC and 1500HD come with self-tapping trim screws that you can use to attach the jambs.

Q:can i install this for my house front entry door way?

          Answer This Question

A:  This door jamb kit is for pocket door installations. I am assuming you don't have a pocket door as your front entry, so it is probably the wrong thing for your use. However, if you do have a pocket door as your front door, then this trim kit would be fine for the jamb as it is solid wood and primed - you would just need to make sure you painted and caulked it. But I am pretty sure this is not what you would need for your front entry.

A:  No, this would be used for a pocket door application.

As an Interior Designer, I'm incorporating more and more pocket doors into my designs for clients. In the past, they've gotten a bad rap because the hardware/frames were so flimsy. But now, with Johnson Hardware, (their 2000 series) that has all changed. This particular purchase was not for a client, but for MY own long-awaited renovation. We used the pocket door in three places. 1) Guest bathroom where a regular door would take up too much space, 2) my new walk-in pantry (no room for a door on the inside nor outside of it, and 3) Double pocket doors going from the living room into the kitchen. Why? Because the "open concept" is so 5 years ago. People have realized that it's not always so good to have pots and pans and other kitchen noise banging around while the people in the living room are watching TV or trying to have a conversation. But what if you still want to have an open concept "sometimes"??? Pocket Doors! We used the Johnson Hardware metal frames (VERY STURDY... especially here in earthquake land), and of course this Johnson Hardware 1510 series door jamb kit. It DOES fit the 2000 series pocket door frames. They are getting harder and harder to find at Home Depot. Can't even find them online on HD's website. Hope they bring them back. Because they are the best, and that's what I design with. Outstanding! The photo attached is a rendering showing that I used it for the pantry door (on the right side of the rendering) and those double doors on the left side of the rendering. (Can't take a regular photo yet because we're still putting in cabinets and the rooms are in disarray.) But this will be what allows people to have the open concept part time. The door jamb kit fits perfectly and is primed so you can paint it whatever color you choose.

This product was a big help as the boards are already cut to the size you need. Yeah you could cut the boards yourself out of #2 pine but these are already cut and primed ready to nail in. This does make life simpler and makes for a clean installation.

                Response from THD-CSJan 16, 2019
Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, We have reached out to the manufacturer and their reply is, We are writing to follow up on the review that you posted for the LE Johnson Hardware 1510 Series 36 in. x 80 in. Primed Pocket Door Jamb Kit which you purchased. We noticed in your comments that you stated, “Boards are bent, making the trim kit not usable for use as ...trim”. Our jamb kit is finger jointed, so it is highly unlikely it is warped, and we have rigorous quality control standards. Most likely, the kit was dropped and the jarring of the drop caused the finger joints to come apart. This appears to be an unfortunate occurrence, but thank you for your review.
