Hello Vincent, These units should be powered up within the first two years after date of manufacturing. The sensor dissipates over time, so anything older than 2 years may not last the full 7-years.
It will detect the Carbon Monoxide in he fumes.
I can use both plugs; one is for a night light.
The chirping is an indication that the 9V battery needs to be replaced.
There's (2) reasons. 1- It may be detecting some type of gas. 2- the BACK-UP battery may need to be replaced.
It has a cord, or you can plug directly into the outlet. Battery backup.
The ideal place is 5ft above the floor. But since you don't normally have outlets at this level, use the ones near the floor.
The detector may be at its end of life (10 years). If so it needs to be replaced.
