I have a Fluke in my box, unfortunately it doesn't offer my need request for information. I would like to add, the cost is again too high for the product the consumer is receiving. $120 for an item that probably cost $8-$15 to build. I understand manufacturing, everyone who touches it wants to make a profit. The problem is the big cats want to make too much of a profit then not give the workers a pinch of success from that product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't really beat it for the price =====First impressions==== First let me say that I am an electrical engineer with 45 years experience with these instruments so I hope I know what I am talking about ;-) This meter comes packaged in a clam-shell sealed clear plastic enclosure, you know, the type we all hate to have to cut open. This does not inspire confidence in the product quality, but that did not affect my review. The meter looks fine with a bright orange clamp color and plainly read controls. =====Preliminary check===== The package contains the meter, two test leads, a zippered soft storage/carrying case, a thermocouple with holder, an instruction booklet, and two AAA batteries. I was surprised that the meter can use ordinary cheap AAA batteries. So that is a plus for me. I think a simple belt clip should have been included. In some cases, that will be essential, but I may know why that was not done (later on that...). To install the batteries, you loosen (not remove) a single screw and lift off the back cover. There are no fuses in this meter. The cover was easy to reinstall. Then you can plug in the test leads. Alligator clips are not supplied, too bad as these can be really helpful at times. You can remove the plastic tip covers on the test leads if you need to have more surface area available on the tips, such as when connecting other clip leads to them. I recommend leaving them on at other times in order to minimize the possibility of shorting circuits with the exposed tips. =====Performance===== This meter did almost as well as a more expensive clamp meter I already had in many areas but not as well in a few others. For example, the display digits are a bit larger and more legible when viewed normally. Of course the is partly due to it not being a 4 1/2 digit display (it is a 3 3/4 display). However, the display faded badly when the viewing position was from a few degrees above the horizontal and over. I can see why no belt clip was provided, I suppose, because the meter cannot be read from such a high angle. The back-light is fine and bright, operated by the same button as 'Hold". I find that feature to be superior to the other meter I have. As for measurements, almost all did as well as the more expensive meter. All voltage, current, resistance, diode, continuity, frequency and duty cycle, and temperature measurements did fine, well within the specs. The manual stats that the thermocouple supplied for the temperature measurements should not be used above 355 degrees F even though it is a K-type. I subjected it to an ambient temperature of over 1000 F and it performed well. I suspect it is just not rugged enough to withstand such high temperatures for long. Keep in mind that this method of measurement is intended for very wide temperature ranges such as found in industrial conditions, and does not have the fine accuracy or resolution suitable for normal human environments. In other words, the readings will not be very accurate for the lower temperature ranges. Note that the manual states a typical error of over 9 degrees F may be expected at some temperature ranges. I did find my meter to be a bit more accurate, within about 4-6 degrees in the middle range. A thermocouple is typically designed for measurements in the hundreds or thousands of degrees F. Perhaps an NTC-type temperature probe would have been more useful for home, hobby, or small business measurements. The AC current measuring function using the clamp worked fine and it can accept as large as a 1 3/8" diameter cable. You must clamp the meter around a single conductor. it will not work correctly is at all by clamping around a multiple-conductor cable (like a heater/lamp cord). In case you are wondering how to measure current when the cable cannot be easily separated by conductor, you can buy this line splitter from Home Depot: Extech Instruments Model # 480172. Or you can make one like I did. I made mine before discovering the Extech one, and actually spent more money my way. Mia Culpa. The clamp can be used either way possible. If you are into automotive work, I strongly suggest buying the upper grade clamp meter from Klein (Model CL800). That one can measure DC current up to 600 amps and is ideal for automotive measurements for shorting current and alternator output. This meter is primarily for residential/commercial AC wiring use. ghis meter haas a non-contact voltage sensing capability (NCV). To use it, you set the selector to any position except OFF and pres the NCV button while pointing the tip of the clamp close to the possible AC line. If the light comes on, AC voltage is present. The manual is incorrect in stating that "audible warning signals" are made when the AC voltage is detected. No such sound is made on my meter, even though it beeps normally at other times. The response/update time for this meter seemed sluggish compared with my other meter. You get what you pay for. I did not like the larger spaces between the segments in the display. That makes reading the display more difficult in my opinion. On most measurements the reading will round down to the lower digits. For example, with a applied voltage of 19.9 volts DC, the meter will display "19.9" on the automatic range, but will show "19" instead of "20" on the next higher manually set range. That differs from my other meter, which rounds up or down as required. Again... what you pay for. =====Summary==== Great meter for the money. Compares well with more expensive ones. A few very minor flaws that make it less than perfect.

This thing all the electrical side is ok and within spec less than one year from purchase this product is up to 15% error on its temperature reading @32°F which is completely unacceptable I doubt it was correct since new. Testing with proper ratio ICE bath against a Fluke, and Hilmore HVAC k type meters and 3 different manufacturers of k type probes. All probes are within .4°F regardless of manufacturer but his product continually is off by 5°F or more. I cannot imagine how this was left through, I cant imagine how many SH and SC were off by such drastic measurements im on my way back to home depot after customer support for klein said they are not familiar with product? Not hvac grade I question ever reading made at this point. severely disappointed. Especially when this is used as little as it has been.
