Model L7010 is rated for applications from 10 psi to 150 psi. Thank you.

Should water spray out from under the black valve when I open it manually?

Answer

I believe what you are calling a “black valve” is the Black bleed screw. Yes, when this screw is turned counter clockwise to open, water will bleed out into atmosphere to activate the valve manually. This is normal until you turn the bleed screw clockwise to close.

How many sprinklers can i hook up to one valve

Thank you for your question. A generalized answer would depend on specific water flow, which is measured in gallons per minute (GPM). If you can provide us your water PSI and GPM, then we can provide a more realistic view of how many heads can run on one zone or station per valve.

I'm not sure you can open the Lawn Genie housing. I've never been very familiar with the internal workings of these relatively inexpensive irrigation components. Sorry.

On the Valve Selection Guide on the back of the L7010's box, it states that its "Footprint" is 4-1/2 inches. It also lists these additional Lawn Genie valves/footprints: L7034 / 4"; L4010 / 4-1/4"; L4034 / 3-3/4". If you are looking for 4", then take a look at the L7034 valve.

Likely a failure of the valve in some way. Try removing the needle valve and cleaning it. If that fails replace the unit or check youtube.

I had three of these destroyed by a deer! Yep broke off three to bits. I bought three and fittings to replace the system. The valves are easy to install and I like the feature of the lever on top to be able to turn the water on and off. It gives you the ability to adjust the water pressure and has a backflow preventer built in to keep the water from going into the house supply when turned off. Wiring is simple one wire from each connects to ground and the other one from each valve goes to your controller that turns the solenoid on to open the valve, it is pretty straight forward and easy if you are just replacing one.

These valves are quite reliable for all of my jobs. I have yet to experience any issues with them. Easy to install and meet my expectations. I've been using these units for several years now and will continue to do so. These valves are priced right and once adapted with the necessary fittings, you can have a unit that can be easily changed out in little time.

33 years ago, I installed a 6 zone sprinkler system using Lawn Genie control valves. They have worked faultless, except this year (2017) Zone 1 just didn't have the water flow. I chose to replace instead of rebuilding. The new one is built with the same quality as the original. A couple of fittings and glue & BAM, up & running once again. Sure I could have saved some pennies rebuilding. I'm very pleased with my choice. I had to order it, but HD got it to me fast & free shipping to my local store. If I was starting from scratch on a new system, I would not hesitate to use Lawn Genie valves.

Bad Threads Caused a Leak
The coupling that screws into the bottom of this unit would only turn 1 revolution before it jammed up. This resulted in a leak when I installed it. I returned to Home Depot and took another unit off the shelf and tested the female threads at the bottom of the unit by screwing in another threaded coupling. It too jammed up. I had to test 5 units in the store before I found a unit that would allow the threaded coupling to rotate 2-3 revolutions without jamming. I noticed that other reviews of Lawn Genie sprinkler valves had the same complaint. Once installed, it took another hour, and a call to Lawn Genie to get the unit to work in the automatic mode. The rep told me that there is a typo in the instructions. It says to turn the "white flow control knob clockwise until it seats." The flow control knob (which is not labeled in the diagram) is black. Once I did that, the unit worked properly. Test the female threads with the threaded coupling while you are still in the store, and make sure it rotates at least 2 revolutions without jamming. You may save yourself a lot of time & frustration. Lawn Genie is the only brand that I have run into this problem with while installing. I give Home Depot 5 stars for allowing me to return the faulty unit. I give Lawn Genie 1 star for a lack of quality control with the sprinkler valve threads, and the typo in the instructions.

Low Priced for a Reason
I purchased two of these two replace two 20 year old Rainbird valves that were leaking. Unfortunately, these only lasted about 6 months and constantly leaked no matter what adjustments I made to them. I should have purchased the better quality Rainbird valves from the get go, which I ended up doing after tossing these out. Buyer beware, in this case, cheaper costs more in the long run.
