A:  As far as I know there is no flow control valve included. The solenoid valve is now in the location that provided a flow control valve in older designs.

Q:Should water spray out from under the black valve when I open it manually?

        Answer This Question

A:  I believe what you are calling a “black valve” is the Black bleed screw. Yes, when this screw is turned counter clockwise to open, water will bleed out into atmosphere to activate the valve manually. This is normal until you turn the bleed screw clockwise to close.

Q:How many sprinklers can i hook up to one valve

          Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question. A generalized answer would depend on specific water flow, which is measured in gallons per minute (GPM). If you can provide us your water PSI and GPM, then we can provide a more realistic view of how many heads can run on one zone or station per valve.

          by|Apr 29, 2019

A:  The number of sprinklers depends on the water pressure and the diameter of the water pipe attached to each sprinkler. The size and shape of the sprinkler is also a factor. Testing the system is the best way to determine the number.

            by|Apr 25, 2019

A:  I have about 4 per valve. But I would assume you'd only be limited by your water pressure and the configuration. Bear in mind though that all the sprinklers will come on and off by the valve. So if you need multiple zones you need multiple valves, regardless of how many heads per zone you want. That is really controlled by the type of sprinkler heads you plan to use since some heads cover more area than others as well as the water pressure available to you.

Anti-siphon valve cap is a point of failure
I have used and replaced many Lawn Genie 1 in. Anti-Siphon Valves over the years. Most of the failures are due to the anti-siphon valve cap splitting along the threads. I generally get only about 5 years of service from these valves. I kept using these valves so that I wouldn't have to rework the manifold. I just found that the Hunter valve uses the same center spacing so bye-bye Lawn Genie.

I had three of these destroyed by a deer! Yep broke off three to bits. I bought three and fittings to replace the system. The valves are easy to install and I like the feature of the lever on top to be able to turn the water on and off. It gives you the ability to adjust the water pressure and has a backflow preventer built in to keep the water from going into the house supply when turned off. Wiring is simple one wire from each connects to ground and the other one from each valve goes to your controller that turns the solenoid on to open the valve, it is pretty straight forward and easy if you are just replacing one.

These valves are quite reliable for all of my jobs. I have yet to experience any issues with them. Easy to install and meet my expectations. I've been using these units for several years now and will continue to do so. These valves are priced right and once adapted with the necessary fittings, you can have a unit that can be easily changed out in little time.

33 years ago, I installed a 6 zone sprinkler system using Lawn Genie control valves. They have worked faultless, except this year (2017) Zone 1 just didn't have the water flow. I chose to replace instead of rebuilding. The new one is built with the same quality as the original. A couple of fittings and glue & BAM, up & running once again. Sure I could have saved some pennies rebuilding. I'm very pleased with my choice. I had to order it, but HD got it to me fast & free shipping to my local store. If I was starting from scratch on a new system, I would not hesitate to use Lawn Genie valves.

Worked out of the box. Just functioned as a anti-sphon valve should do.

Easy to swap out portion of the valve assembly to be used in the old valve.
