Suitable for wall and floor applications, it has moderate tone variations and dark colors that will give your interior a contemporary vibe and a chic appearance. A low-sheen, natural finish contributes to this stone's no-nonsense appeal. Note: Inspect all tiles before installation. Natural stone products inherently lack uniformity and are subject to variation in color, shade, finish, etc. It is recommended to blend tiles from different boxes when installing. Natural stones may be characterized by dry seams and pits that are often filled. The filling can work its way out and it may be necessary to refill these voids as part of a normal maintenance procedure. All natural stone products should be sealed with a penetrating sealer. After installation, vendor disclaims any liabilities.

A:Â All I can say is that this is a very dark grey/almost black; a true slate color. I would be surprised if Montauk blue is darker. Not what you asked, but I'll add: This tile is beautiful, but it is hard to install. The tiles are totally different thicknesses. I'm a little disappointed with that aspect of this product, but many compliments from friends and family, nonetheless.

This pattern was a challenge for me I highly recommend a professional installer. I fall under the "I can do it" category when it comes to tile, but have over 30 years in the construction industry so I can usually come up with ways to get around obstacles if need be. This tile looks awesome but it was a challenge for me with a 3/16 grout joint. I didn't score perfect, but I am very satisfied with the outcome. I had extremely level floors, but still had a few corners that sat higher and had to use a cold chisel to remove the deviations and it doesn't stand out. Other than the pattern and variations in stone sizes very minimal, I would not recommend this without some really well skilled tile installers. I also used MSI's other size 12 x 124 for my foyer and stainless radius and straight edging to define my borders on both. The photos are of both New Hampshire and another pattern after sealer and before grout. I used pewter grout that was ready mixed.

We installed this tile in a front entrance and a half bath a couple of weeks ago. It came out looking great. The pieces were larger than we thought they would be based on past experience with slate, but they could be cut to fit the area. We have had lots of workmen walking over it with muddy feet and it cleans up with no problem. The only problem we had was that it is natural stone, which breaks easily, and the first shipment we received had mostly broken pieces. The store was great about taking back the four boxes and helping to order a new shipment. Store staff helped us take apart the new four boxes and check for chips and broken pieces. They gave us four larger pieces from store stock to replace a few pieces that were broken in the second shipment. The packaging materials and methods were quite different in the second shipment so they must be changing their methods to deal with the fragile nature of slate.

Great product. Only a few broken pieces to deal with. I used 1/4" spacers and several of the tiles needed to be cut to keep the spacing equal. Instructions may have specified a smaller grout spacing. Overall, it looks great and the pricing is good.
Photo is before grout and sealer. It looks very dark but it does not come out as dark as Home Depot's or my photo suggests.

Pattern problem...
Purchased about 400 sqft for our kitchen. Ordered and picked up at the store. So far there's no damage, but I'm only about a quarter through the install. Cutting the tile isn't an issue with any reasonable wet tile saw. Go slow and use a good blade to eliminate chipping.
The biggest problem is the with the sizing. As another reviewer mentioned, you will have problems with uniformity. In my case, using 1/16" spacers, all of the 8x8 tiles need to be cut down about a 1/16" off of 2 sides. Occasionally some of the 8x16 tiles need a bit off the long side. In addition there's a decent thickness variation between the 8x8 and 8x16 tiles. Generally the 8x8s are thinner while the 8x16s are thicker than the rest. Even using a leveling system (Raimondi), it can be a pain.
I like the look of the slate; however, beware of the installation problems. Using the pattern is a pain as it is. The problem is further compounded by the sizing issues.
If I had to do slate again, it would not be the patterned, gauged slate. Maybe a 12x12 or 12x24 or any other large format in uniform size.

Beautiful tile at a very reasonable price!
Our contractor installed this tile around our tub, inside our shower and the bathroom floor. We had over 190 sq ft and the tile was easy to install, easy to form a pattern with the 4 different tile sizes and it looks amazing against our white fixtures. I would highly recommend this tile for bathroom installations. I couldn't find anything else at a better value.

Looks great against white
This tile came out looking great as a natural looking compliment to white subway tile and white fixtures (Tub, Sink, Bathroom). I was originally a bit concerned that I needed more space for the pattern to emerge but still looked okay in my tiny space (see pic).

The condition of the tiles as ok - a couple broken corners. The biggest issue was the color variation - 2 out of the 6 boxes were black and 4 out of the 6 boxes were gray. Gray tiles were not close enough to mix in.
