Thank you for your question on the UC3551A chainsaw. The chain saw does not come assembled. The bar and chain need to be assembled. Please read and understand the owners manual for safety and instructional reasons.

Can this electric chain saw be used with a yamaha EF2000is generator? Getting tired of dealing with fickle gas chains saws and cordless chain saws that don't last very long on a charge? Will be only cutting 12"dia or less trees on my property. Thanks

                Answer This Question

"Thank you for your question on the UC3551A Chainsaw. Electrical appliances and tools normally come with a label indicating voltage, cycles / Hz, amperage (amps) and electrical power needed to run the appliance or tool. Check with your nearest dealer or service center with questions regarding power surge of certain appliances or power tools. Electrical motors require a large starting current. Power requirements depend on the type of motor and its use. Once enough ""surge"" is attained to start the motor, the appliance will require only 50% to 30% of the wattage to continue running. Most electrical tools require 1.2 to 3 times their wattage for running under load during use. For example, a 5000 watt generator can power a 1800 to 4000 watt electrical tool."

Not sure what the generator power output is, but if greater than 14 amps would not see and issue with using with saw.

what is a rear handle chainsaw as with Makita 14 inch corded electric chainsaw?

                    Answer This Question

Thank you for your question. The most common type of chain saws have a rear handle as opposed to some chain saws have a handle on the top.

A huge 3 1/2 foot diameter portion of my tree broke off [fungus] and took out the power lines behind my home. Best quote i got from tree service guys was $1000 to cut it up so it could be removed. See pics. This saw is amazing!

                        Little giant
No, it's not a gas chainsaw. Yes, will get the job done and do it without hassle, fuel, noise, smell, trouble starting, everything associated with a motor. I used the full bar length to cut a stand of dead trees next to my greenhouse. It worked great. Cut great all day. Good power, kicked out my wedges with ease on the final cut and was just a champ. Super easy to use features to tension and tighten. I'm putting it away until who knows when I'll need it again but I'm sure it will run the same as the day I used it. Again, it's not a gas powered beast that you can lean into but I was very surprised with the torque and it's power. Fantastic and no maintenance like a gas. Just look at the picture. 6 hours of work and it's already paid for itself. Great value.

It has a plastic blade adjustment and plastic blade housing removal handle. This is one of the more expensive Chinese made saws. Other comparable Chinese made saws are a hundred dollars less than this one.

This is my second Makita chain saw. Love their ease of use and ability to tackle big jobs. My only criticism is that the chain tightening mechanism is awkward on this newer model.

                            Really good ELECTRIC chain saw
This Makita Electric Chain Saw is a really good option for anyone who doesn't want to have to deal with the annoying aspects of using a gas chain saw (buying and mixing gas/oil, making sure that you don't leave old gas in the tank for too long, directly contributing to the depletion of the Earth's natural resources, etc.). The saw comes in multiple pieces, so you have to put it together, but I was surprised at how relatively easy it was to assemble, especially since this was my first time putting together a chain saw. It only took me about 10 minutes to get from reading the instructions to using the chain saw. Seriously. There were two major downsides to it being an electric chain saw. First, you have to run extension cords from an outlet to wherever you want to use the saw. This obviously limits how far onto your property you can get before the saw is no longer usable, so I hope most of your trees are close to your house. Second, this saw doesn't have as much cutting power as my gas-powered chain saw. That being said, if you're using this for normal property cleanup and not trying to cut down huge trees, you shouldn't have any problem getting the job done with this bad boy. To recap: it's an easy saw to put together and use and it doesn't require as much work to maintain as a gas-powered chain saw, but it also doesn't deliver as much cutting power as a gas-powered chain saw and it's limited by the length of your extension cord(s) as to where you can use it.

A very durable, powerful and high quality Electric chain saw.
This is a very durable, powerful and high quality Electric chain saw. It is not a casual machine, but something that can handle heavy duty work load day after day. Please go and get the Bar and Chain Oil from Home Depot, and fill it in the machine's oil reservoir, before you even try to assemble the machine, because, 1) it does not come with it in the box, and 2) it is the human tendency to turn the machine ON after the assembly. It is not recommended to turn it ON without Bar and Chain Oil. Makita recommends BIOTOP oil, a special oil with adhesive addition for lubricating the saw chain and bar, but it is not available at Home Depot. So, it is okay to get another brand. After the assembly, when you try to do a test run, it may not work, because these models come with a chain brake as standard equipment and the factory setting is ON. So you need to turn it OFF by pulling it back (towards you ) to unlock the brake. Now it is time for test run, and put it to work. I did test it and it is indeed really very powerful and fast to do the work nicely. I do recommend this to every home owner, who is in need of one, and it will serve you for a long time to come.

                            Know its limits.
This is not a gas saw so keep that in mind. What it is is a well made easy to use electric saw with good power for light applications. It is light and will work well for yard clean up such as limbs and small fire wood, use the 1/3rd rule of cutting no bigger then about 5 inches and this saw will last a long time.Dont force it ,let it cut at its own speed and remember to keep it oiled and sharp for best results. Know its limits and you will be safer and far happier with the results. It is easy to set up and the directions are good and easy to follow. You will be cutting in no time.Dont forget to get a file for sharpening.
