Product Overview

The Makita 1 in. AVT Rotary Hammer (model HR2641, with D-Handle) is engineered with Anti-Vibration Technology (AVT), an internal counterbalance system for significantly less vibration. The HR2641 combines performance and power with less vibration in a compact size and is ideal for a range of applications including overhead drilling. The new HR2641 has an 8 Amp motor that delivers 2.9 Joules (2.1 ft. lbs.) of impact energy to handle the most demanding applications. The 3-mode operation offers "rotation only", "hammering with rotation" or "chipping only" for multiple applications. Modes can be easily changed with a recessed hammer-function selector, which is located below the gear housing for improved durability. The ergonomic D-shaped handle with a rubberized soft grip provides increased operator comfort, as well as a retractable tool hook to secure the tool to studs, ladders and rails when not in use. The HR2641 is engineered for a range of applications including overhead drilling into concrete, wood and metal, removing tile and more. It is ideal for a range of trades including masons, plumbers, electricians, sprinkler installers, city maintenance crews and general contractors seeking a best-in-class 1 in. rotary hammer.
  • Anti-vibration technology (AVT) is an internal counterbalance system that greatly reduces vibration by moving a counterweight in the opposite direction of the drive piston
  • Integrated damper spring at the base of the impact bolt is engineered to absorb impact vibrations from the drill bit
  • Retractable hook allows tool to remain close by but never in the way
  • Sequential impact timing delivers timed hammering during rotation to minimize overlapping bit impacts for up to 50% faster drilling
  • Variable speed trigger enables user to match the speed to the application for greater versatility
  • 40 bit angle settings allow the bit to be set at different positions for operating convenience
  • Ergonomic D-shaped handle with rubberized soft grip for increased comfort
  • Torque limiting clutch engineered to prevent gear damage by automatically disengaging gears if the bit binds
  • No hammering when idling function helps increase tool life
  • Includes: 1 in. AVT rotary hammer (model HR2641, with D-handle) and 4-1/2 in. angle grinder (GA4530)

Does this drill into concrete

Asked by RDG June 13, 2021

It has a selectable drill drive, one for drill only, one for drill and hammer, and one for hammer only. In the Drill and Hammer position it will quickly drill into concrete, masonry, stone! You can use the hammer only option with a chisel to scrape or shape stone, and the drill only is ready to drill metal or wood as any drill.

Where is it manufactured

Will it drill through steel or metal ?

Asked by Wil September 4, 2019

I purchased the drill chuck accessory for this hammer drill, so I can drill just about anything, using regular drill bits. (Similar to this: https://www.makitatools.com/products/details/191881-4 but I would have to check the exact model of the chuck I have) So yes,you can. I'm not sure if you can purchase a SDS drill bits, other than for cement/masonry but if you could I would think they would be expensive.

Can this drill be used as a mixing drill? If so, what attachment would I need. Thanks, Fred

Thank you for your question. The HR2641X1 1" AVT® Rotary Hammer, accepts SDS-PLUS bits (D-handle) and 4-1/2" Angle Grinder is not intended for use as a mixer. Please see the DS4012 1/2" Spade Handle Drill.

The tile demo will be ok, but in our experience, heavier demolition of hardened concrete will kill the tool. A 3/4" wall is not that much. You might want to do it in stages allowing the tool to cool down a bit and it wiil do the job. Use good chissel bits to do it right. I'd rather use a small dedicated chipping hammer for the concrete if it's a lot.

We have been using this tool for 2 days. We are picking up ceramic tile and thinset. It works well. We have rented the bigger SDS Max machine before. It is a trade off between working to get the thinset up with this tool or working harder to muscle the bigger tool. I chose to buy this because we are also working in a long hall, closets and bathrooms. We are using the Bosch 1-1/2-in x 10-in SDS-plus Drill Chisel Mortising Bit. Model # HS1465P. We rented a 4” wide floor scraper from HD.
