would this work on a front door, to put one on each side of the glass to hold a wreath? it is no...

Magnetic force is significantly affected by the distance between the two magnets. If the distance is doubled, the force is reduced to 1/4 of the original force. A magnet with a 65 lb. pull spaced 1/2 in. apart would have a theoretical maximum pull force of 8 lbs. The pull force would drop to less than 4 lbs. at an inch apart. Depending on your situation, it may be possible, but is difficult to provide a definitive answer.

This magnet will not work on an aluminum patio cover. Aluminum will not work with any magnet.

Could you use this on a glass shower door?

Asked by Dave February 11, 2019

Answers

The answer to your question is "probably not" since glass is made of silica not iron so this will not stick to the glass. It might stick to the frame around the glass if it is made of an iron-based metal (steel), but a lot of them are made of plastic or aluminum neither of which will respond to a magnet. It's a magnet, not a suction cup. It will only stick to magnetic surfaces. That means various types of STEEL for the most part. When in doubt, grab a little magnet off your fridge and try to stick it to the surface you want to use this thing on. If the fridge magnet doesn't stick, neither will this.

The location of the product depends on the store, generally these are in the same aisle as the fasteners (screws / nuts / bolts).

Could this work in a school locker as a coat hook?

No, it cannot even hold up a lighweight windbreaker. It's extremely weak and effectively useless.

Will this work on a door for hanging a bamboo blind because I rent and don't want to screw into the metal door

Depends. If your metal door is made of aluminum, as many are, then NO. It's a magnet, it will not stick to aluminum. If your metal door is made of steel, then it should work. Quick test: grab a little magnet off your fridge and try to stick that to the door. If the little magnet sticks then so will this.

Can it be used outdoors, and can the hook be removed?

My wife and I bought several of the 65# Magnets to use as clothes hangers on a Cruise! Most Cruise Ships have metal walls and are often very short on hanging storage so we gave this a shot and it worked great. I advise using the 65# Magnetic Hooks as they hold a full day's worth of clothing without sliding down the wall. We shared the idea with a couple we were cruising with and when we returned home, sent them several that we purchased at our local Home Depot, (Highway 280 Store/Birmingham, AL). I have only been on one cruise (this one) but having the extra hanging spaces certainly made accessing our clothing and not having it wrinkled from staying in a suitcase a real time saver. We are going on another cruise in May and will have our faithful Home Depot magnets stowed in our luggage for more ease of access. Probably will carry some extras on this next cruise to give to people we meet as it far exceeded our wildest expectations! I will probably get shot for attaching this photo of my beautiful wife of 43 years (this was an Anniversary Cruise) but it is the only one that shows the hooks in use...Thanks Home Depot for making and enjoyable cruise even MORE enjoyable!

Great to take on a cruise!
I've taken these on cruises for a couple of years now. All walls and ceilings are metal and we used them to hang hats, makeup mirrors, binoculars... They definitely hold more weight when hung from the ceiling. They are great on the wall too, but will slide a little before reaching 20 lbs. (Although I did leave the thin pad on to protect the walls. Should hold tighter without the pad.) These are one of the first things I pack for my cruise.

I sold a large photographic image on plywood that weighed about 40#. It was to be installed in a renovated mill complex apartment with exposed steel beams at the ceiling. I draped two wires from these magnets from the vertical face of the I-beam to complete the installation above the sofa.

This little product does the extraordinary, these days: it exceeds expectation, and it is inexpensive. The magnet is powerful. I used it to hang an ornamental plate on my kitchen appliance. I've bought four of these, to use in various locations, on fridges, washing machines, etc, to hold the obvious stuff like potholders. They're strong, secure, well-made, and very inexpensive. What more can you want??
