About This Product

The Milwaukee M12 FUEL SURGE 1/4 in. Hex Hydraulic Driver is the industry's first 12-Volt hydraulic impact driver. Featuring the FLUID-DRIVE Hydraulic Powertrain, the hydraulic impact will allow users to experience operation up to 2X quieter with less vibration for smoother and faster driving speeds compared to standard impacts. The compact size of the tool and battery provides users with unmatched access in tight spaces and allows for easy transport on a tool belt and easy fitting into a job site tool bag. Performance is not sacrificed despite lower peak torque due to its Longer Sustained Torque that allows the tool to complete core users most common applications. The POWERSTATE Brushless Motor delivers up to 0 RPM to 3,000 RPM with constant power output to drive screws faster. Built-in REDLINK PLUS intelligence is the most advanced electronic system on the market, preventing damage to the user's tool and battery caused by overloading or overheating. The M12 FUEL Cordless Brushless 3/8 in. Stubby Impact Wrench is the industries most compact impact wrench on the market place. Measuring only 4.8 in. L, this tool fits in tighter spaces, making users more productive. Increased torque delivers an industry leading 250 ft./lbs. of breakaway torque, removing even the most stubborn bolts and fasteners.

A:  Hi Abel. According to the description from Milwaukee, the 4-Mode Drive Controls will allow unmatched control in various fastening applications. Drive Control 1-3 RPM will allow for precision control. The “Auto-Shut Off Mode” in the 4th setting will prevent over fastening of bolts while doing reassembly work. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance. Rick_HD_OC

Compact but Powerful Enough for Lugnuts
I'm just the occasional DIYer that does various automotive and household tasks. This 3/8 drive stubby is perfect for hard to reach jobs such as removing caliper bracket bolts and suspension components. I like that it fits perfectly in my 3 drawer packout toolbox as well. Although not as mighty as a full-blown 1/2 inch impact wrench, this thing has managed to successfully remove lug nuts on my ram 1500, my travel trailer, and my dump trailer.

Everyone always says don't use an impact driver to remove or replace the small screws on HVAC, well let me tell you as long as you don't gorilla it, keep it on #1 and it is absolutely fine. It is a little little powerhouse. I put the rubber boot on it that's not supposed to fit it. It fits like a glove! Everyone always asks me about it.

Bought this to take off lug nuts and make working on cars easier. I was a bit skeptical if it was strong enough, but after several jobs, this tool worked amazing. Took off lug nuts like a champ.

Love this tool very very versatile
FYI I purchased this tool in June 20 this review is done in September 20. I was skeptical like everyone else is before they purchase 12-volt tools. I myself own numerous 18v tools. I have become accustomed to there power and torque. I have a friend who spoke highly of 12-volt power and versatility. I understand that the 18 volt and 12 volt systems are apples and oranges in terms of what you can throw at it. I was very very impressed with this tool. I will give you all a very good and very cost-effective way to utilize this tool in two ways being an impact wrench obviously and as well an impact driver. I just picked up a 3/8 in square x 1/4 hex shockwave impact adapter. I use this professionally as a contractor so weight is always a factor. Hey, guys get rid of some weight from the toolbox leave the impact driver at home. If you get this imp. wr. and purchase the adapter your savings alone there is a few hundred dollars. I love Milwaukee tools because everything they make is always multifunctional. I hope this helped.

Alright, so I'm a Milwaukee guy. I have a full array of M18 impacts (in addition other tools and most of their battery sizes), but recently started dabbling in the M12 line of tools with the purchase of an electric ratchet. So, needless to say I was intrigued by such a small impact putting up torque comparable to most of my M18s. (Not anywhere close to the 1400 ft lbs of a 1/2", but that's not what I got this for). This thing will fit anywhere, so it's super versatile. I had to adjust the cutting edge on my snow pusher which I had tightened with a 1/2 " M18, so I figured I'd put this to the test. It did the job without a sweat and in a timely fashion. I did, however, use 3/4 of a charge in doing so. (Although larger batteries would help, I don't get the impression of great battery life from this tool, and that's okay). So all and all a great little impact that will fit anywhere, and work on MOST applications (I have reservations about ceased bolts)

                  Not a good product
So I got this impact as a gift, I been using it for about two weeks and I believe it would be better than the previous M12 fuel impact with one gear, but turns out it’s not. First the bit I use to drill in screw the housing unit to be exact gets extremely hot. Second after a couple of screws, the battery is almost compare to my other impacts use. And finally the gears take some time to kick in. I won’t be buying this new surge types anymore.

If you are considering an impact driver, this hydraulic version from Milwaukee should be at the top of your list. This kit includes a soft side bag, the 12 volt lithium ion brushless hydraulic surge 1/4 inch impact driver, two 2.0Ah batteries and a charger. The impact driver is smaller than most comparable models and includes an LED light as well as a belt clip. The hydraulic surge design makes it extremely quiet (claim is 2x quieter) compared to non-hydraulic models yet it functions just as well. The bit lock mechanism allows bits to be inserted and locked in without touching the collar. The model features four drives modes: 1 – 0-1,100 RPM / 0-950 IPM 2 – 0-2,200 RPM / 0-2,200 IPM 3 – 0-3,200 RPM / 0-3,400 IPM 4 – Self tapping sheet metal screw mode The self tapping sheet metal screw mode ensures the tool stops when the screw is full seated thus preventing stripping, breakage and work surface damage. The case has hook and loop fasteners as well as elastic fasteners to keep the various parts in place and protected. I tested the product by driving 3-1/2 inch Torx drive deck screws into 4x4 lumber. The first three settings were all able to drive the deck screws fully into the lumber. Based on RPM values, setting 1 was slow and setting 3 was fast with setting two in the middle. Using setting four in a non-designed situation of deck screw into lumber, I was able to observe how the function works. Essentially, when the tool detects increased torque/resistance it pauses for a brief moment then impacts very briefly to complete tightening then stops completely. If you have never owned an impact driver, they are far better for driving screws and lag bolts than a standard drill motor and help prevent stripping of the screw head. This particular model is great for the DIY crowd and professionals. It works better in tight spaces due to its smaller size but still has plenty of power to get the job done.
