Q:Can these be used on Hardie board siding?
    by|Mar 2, 2024

    Answer This Question

A:  Good question! If the Stainless Steel corrosion resistance is needed in your project, this will work greatly with Hardie board siding in non-coastal applications. If you are needing a higher corrosion resistance look for our PRO-FIT 316 Stainless Steel Ring Shank Siding Nail. As Stainless steel is inherently softer than regular steel we would recommend that predrilling the James Hardie siding with an appropriate drill bit for the material as these nails have a tendency to bend going thru the harder James Hardie siding material. If you are looking for another good option that has less corrosion resistance, but is a good regular steel nail you could consider our PRO-FIT Hot Dipped Galvanized 8d Spiral siding nail.

        Answer This Question

A:  These nails are designed to be installed with a hammer and will not work in your tool. Sounds like you’re looking for a 21-degree plastic strip ring shank nail. The cool thing about collated fasteners is any brand should work with your tool, as long as it is 21-degree plastic strip. If you are looking for a highly corrosion resistant nail that won’t back out over time, I would suggest a 21 degree ring shank stainless steel nail. Grip-Rite offers a 2-3/8” option under SKU number 324081.

Hard to find, had to order deliver to store. Head on these used to be like a finish nail that would not show as much when nailed in exposed siding. I guess head will hold better and not pull through shingle.

Great Product nice and strong and did the trick. Home Depot only had a 5 pound box for over $80 and I only needed a pound. Smaller boxes please!

There were a number of different odd sizes mixed in the box. These things are not cheap. When I reach into my tool belt I dont want to find the wrong size.

          Should be a stock item
These are standard issue ring shank stainless steel 6D siding nails. These should be stock items, not special order. This is particularly true with today's treated wood products as standard, non-galvanized, non-SS fasteners are going to corrode and fail much, much quicker, period that's the deal. The small, nominally higher price of these siding nails is nothing compared to the price of wood and siding that a person is working with to build a shed, a fence or repair a home. Not only will the ring shanks decrease pull-outs, the stainless steel ensures you won't have streaks of rust running down your latest project. Think latex, water-based paint, not just rain and humidity.
