Q:Most of your Ridgid drills have two speed settings, 1 and 2. Why does Ridgid not disclose the settings speed in the specification. Low speed is 0-450 and high 0-1700 big difference. How does a repair Tech know if my drill is running at right speed ?

This is my 3rd drill of this model and the other 2 were easily a 5 Star drill. The reason for the 4 star is the bit holder. Since it's frame is plastic, the screw mushrooms the hole when trying to tighten. If not tight enough it tends to rotate.
Very powerful drill for it's size.

Great build quality, comfortable and powerful.
This ridgid hammer drill is built with the same quality that we have come to expect for Ridgid cordless tools. The drill feels substantial in your hand, the torque settings are crisp and you can easily switch form Hammer mode to normal drill easily. the bare tools comes with a belt hook that can be installed on either side if the handle as well as a bit holder, that installs opposite the belt hook. First thing, this drill weighs a bit more that the previous version, and I have included phots of both on the scale for comparison. I was bale to use this right away for a remodel I am doing in my kitchen. the drill performed well with no issues. Here are a few observations I have. this is my second brushless drill, the other is the ridged sub-compact. Both of them have a slight lag when you press the trigger, you will get used to this quickly, but I noticed it right away. The second, I used this to drive screws, the lowest speed is faster than the last model. I unfortunately cannot tell you by how much as I have no way of testing the rpm's but it is noticeable, and was a bit of a problem starting a screw in hard wood. The clutch worked well and I was able to set the correct setting quickly to avoid striping the screw heads and driving to the right depth. I was able to test the hammer drill fixation on piece of concrete and a 1/2" drill, it honestly plowed through it easily, not too shabby for a cordless. I will not provide run times or number of screws I drove on a charge, as this is a bare tool and it depends on your batter and amps. I used the octane versions, which Ridgid has for some reason discontinued, but they work great. Overall this tool performed well and is well made. my only negative was the low speed being a bit faster than other versions. since this will run on any 18v ridgid battery, it is a great upgrade for those looking for a new version that will last for years under tough use.

Let me start by speaking about the quality difference between this tool and some of the other drills I own. With so many drills out there and different systems I've been trying to dabble and test out different tools and let me say, by far the rigid line has been impressive. Right off the bat, the tool has a Heft to it which makes you feel confident in using this tool long term. The overall construction is fantastic with a metal neck and collar. The grip is comfortable and fits perfectly into my hand. The directional switch is in a good location allowing me to easily switch directions with my thumb or the knuckle of my index finger. The trigger is smooth, with a great range. Rotating the collar for your desired speed or to set it to hammer mode, provides good haptic and audible feedback. The base of the drill has a built in led which at first seems counter intuitive, but after using the drill, the light aims upwards providing ample amount of light that doesn't get blocked. The base also has two attachment points, one for the bit holder and another for the belt hook. I just use the drill with the bit holder, as attaching the belt clip makes upright storage not possible and because I have a clip built into my work belt. This might sound OCD, but the bit storage attachment doesn’t line up with the cutout on the side of the drill making it look slightly out of place. The extended grip is pressure mounted to the body of the drill and just a quick couple twists of the handles allows the handle to come off and be remount. Mounting the handle is only possible to the left or right side of the drill. The weight of the tool by itself without a battery mounted (since it's dependent on what you attach to it) comes in at 3.2lbs. I have been using this drill to drill half inch holes into the various left over tree stumps in our back yard and with the hammer mode, which is technically meant for concrete, it has been making holes in the stumps like a hot knife through butter.

I’ve been a fan of Ridgid’s tools for their quality, durability, ergonomics and reliability. I was very pleased to get this high-torque, brushless 1/2” drill to add to my growing Ridgid tool collection. This is for the “tool only” option (no batteries) BUT the drill comes with nice extras such as the torque handle, belt clip and screwdriver clip. The performance of the tool is the quality I’ve come to expect from one of the finest power tool manufacturers.

Powerful, good ergonomics, but I would choose another. I’ve been using a Makita brushless drill and impact driver as my go-to pair. I also have a brushed Milwaukee. The Makita/Milwaukee are not a hammer drills so this Ridgid is more capable. But frankly the extra weight (Ridgid is more than a half pound heavier) and mediocre performance in concrete is not worth changing. If I need to drill masonry I want an SDS drill. The Ridgid does a good job with everything else…wood, metal, etc and driving screws in low speed. Really good power delivery. The Ridgid has a high pitched whine that is hard on the ears when it runs (compared to my Makita & Milwaukee). One big step up on this Ridgid is the chuck. I was actually surprised how well it works. It necks down to a 1/16 and holds tight. I never experienced any slippage, which is common on my Makita. I also thought the bottom mounted LED on the Ridgid would be a problem. But after some use it works as well as LEDs that are mounted near the chuck. If you already own Ridgid batteries then this might be worth a look. But I would opt for a lighter drill only (no hammer). Overall a “C+” grade.

I own several other Ridgid power tools, both corded and cordless, and I've always been impressed with the build quality and durability. This 18v Cordless 1/2 Inch Hammer Drill/Driver is no exception - this is one rugged tool. Powered by the 18v Ridgid Lithium Ion battery system (battery not included here), the drill has plenty of torque and can handle just about anything thrown at it. It's fairly compact for a hammer drill, so you can get it into tight spaces. Ergonomically it handles well and all controls are straightforward. The hand grip is easily positioned on either side depending on operator need. The LED light is bright enough to provide good work area illumination. A belt clip and interchangeable flat/Phillips driver bit holder are mounted on either side of the base. I'm very impressed with this tool - highly recommended!

Beast! Perfect for installing into concrete, brick, etc., this is one tool that can make the hole, then drive the fastener by just changing the bit and turning the clutch. Nice. Well-made, and Ridgid thinks so, too, with an incredible warranty. I like that the belt clip and the bit clip are both reversible. Or grab an extra bit clip to double up. Belt clip is shaped nice for dropping onto my tool belt. Handle is different than I’m used to, and I think I like it. It wraps around the tool and clamps into purpose-made indents to give ultimate security. The innovation is a wrap-around design that supports the torque of the tool really well while in use. I think I’m going to really like this new-to-me handle design. Solid tool, solid warranty, solid performance. Perfect.

I have an impact driver (and extra batteries) from this brand and I have been happy with so I decided to add this hammer/drill. I have to say I am impressed with its performance. I used it to drill holes in a concrete pad to mount an air compressor. The hammer process easily drilled the hole for my anchor screws. I drilled various holes in metal and used wood bits. I have a couple of 4 Au batteries that work with all tools in this line, very nice, and it lasted longer than expected. The brushless motor has plenty of power/torque. It seems to be well-made and light enough to use continuously without wearing my arm out. I like the way the chuck is made for adding/exchanging bits and the handle grip/trigger feels right in my hand. The lifetime service warranty with free parts, free service is a definite plus! Nice drill

This Brushless Hammer Drill/Driver is smaller and lighter than the brushed model I have been using and that is a welcome relief. It has ½” chuck and 800 in./lbs of torque, up from less than 600 on my older model. It is easy to handle, has an LED light that illuminates the whole area and feels balanced in my hand. It comes with a bit holder and belt clip for ease of carrying it, fits all my Ridgid 18v batteries, has 2 speeds, a 22 step clutch and settings for drilling and hammer drilling. I drilled 3 holes quickly in concrete and was surprised how easy it was to do. With a Lifetime Service Agreement it will work as long and hard as I do. I have many Ridgid tools and the new line is lighter, stronger and a joy to use. I highly recommend this tool.

This Hammer Drill/Driver feels great in the hand, not too heavy or too light. This is the tool only it does not come with a battery. I have other 18v Ridgid tools so this is not an issue for me and I like to be able to buy the tool only as it saves you some money, The trigger has a good feel to it to achieve the speeds you want. There is a belt hook and bit holder as well as the auxiliary handle. A light is built into the base. The two speed gear switch is nice depending on the torque you need based on what your drilling. As always there is a Lifetime Service Agreement with the tool you just need to register it.
