Love It!
Having been the sole laborer for our 20 acre Family Forest for many years I got to know my way around a chainsaw and have owned a variety of them, both gas and electric. Although I still love my reliable gas Stihl saw, there are times when I just need to take care of a smaller cutting project. Although I have several corded electric saws, they're only useful when I'm close to a power source. This Ryobi 40V Brushless 14 inch Cordless chainsaw with 4.0 Ah Battery and Charger is the perfect solution for those jobs that need a powerful saw to make quick work of brush, downed limbs, etc. The 40V motor and 14 inch bar cut easily through the wood, and the saw is comfortably balanced and handles well. Sound levels while running measures a consistent 77 dB which, while not whisper quiet, falls below the OSHA standard for requiring hearing protection. By comparison, most gas chainsaws come in at 110-120 db, so using this Ryobi saw whenever possible certainly makes my neighbors happier. The 4.0 Ah Battery gives the saw a good run time of 45-60 minutes. A 5.0 Ah Battery is also available if you need longer run duration. I'm very pleased with this chainsaw. It cuts great, puts out less noise, no fumes, and except for having to add chain oil (not included, by the way), mostly maintenance free. Highly recommended!

Convenience of battery power at the cost of weight
This came at the perfect time to tackle trimming my palm trees. This 14 inch cordless chain saw from Ryobi cut right through the tough palm fronds without hesitation. Having the freedom to move around the tree without an electrical cable winding around my feet was wonderful. The downside was the battery makes the saw much heavier than an electric so your arms get tired quickly. The battery came charged at under 50% so I put it on the charger first thing. This is a very slow charger and I waited nearly two hours for it to top off. Once full, I tackled the palm trees. I cut through approximately 20 fronds near the base of the tree. Each frond was cut through in seconds then I moved to the next and repeated. The saw was off while moving so actual run time had to have been under 10 minutes maybe less. Yet when I put the battery back on the charger it was blinking the third LED which means I used between 25% and 50% of the battery in that short amount of time. Based on those results, this is not a good solution for larger projects. One might also try to acquire a second battery. It would be nice if Ryobi included a second battery and a faster charger considering how this tool will be used and how quickly the batteries drain. I appreciate the chain brake that stops the saw very quickly once the trigger is released. I also found the product to have good weight distribution. I disliked the overall weight of the product and how much debris bunched up under the chain cover where the drive sprocket is located. I also want to note that the product did not come with bar and chain oil. The last electric chainsaw I purchased included oil so I was disappointed Ryobi does not include oil.

The 14-inch 40v Ryobi Chainsaw This saw is capable of holding its own with all corded, battery and most gas saws under the 30cc barrier. In case your new to chainsaws that means it's stronger than most homeowner and farm chainsaws on the market. It's great to use a chainsaw that doesn't require hearing protectors before you even start cutting. I found this saw more than capable of handling those 14-inch hard and soft woods in a wood yard. I also used it on manufactured beams with excellent results. This saw will cut your firewood or your construction beams with ease and precision. The current climate restrictions eliminating small gas-powered lawn and garden equipment in California, makes this saw a requirement for or future, if California Laws really do portend the nation’s future. Add the added benefit of protecting the hearing of the user and others nearby, makes this saw a must have.

Works great
This 40V battery chainsaw is great for my intended purpose - cutting firewood for my woodstove. It cuts 3 and 4 inch diameter logs without a problem. It does tend to lock up on 6" diameter logs but will cut them. This saw is not going to replace my gas chainsaw for large projects but it is perfect for cutting firewood. I like the fact that it has a built in tool for tightening the chain. I cut up about 10 logs for my wood stove and the saw still seemed to have plenty of power.

A well-designed piece of machinery
With its 14-inch blade, this RYOBI 40 volt battery-powered chainsaw is close to 31 inches in overall length. With the hefty 7" x 4" x 3" battery installed, the saw is very well balanced. The battery charger is quite compact - 5" x 3" x 1 1/2" - and shows when the battery is charging and when ready to use again. Have to wait for the snow to melt completely before I can cut my first fireplace log.

Powerful Little Chainsaw
This Ryobi cordless chainsaw is great. I've never used a cordless chainsaw and I wasn't expecting very good results. This chainsaw surprised me. It is powerful and cuts smoothly. Once the battery was fully charged, you can hear the power when you pull the trigger to start cutting. I had a good sized shrub stump that it cut thru with ease. I highly recommend this chainsaw. It would be nice if a small sample bottle of chainsaw oil was included, but thankfully I already had some.

Cuts and Cuts
Quick and clean little chainsaw. Add bar oil and charge the battery and you're ready to go. It takes a little while to charge the battery so if there is a lot of bucking then another battery would be worth the extra money. As shown in the pictures, we sawed red oak limbs. The saw comes with a nice sharp chain and had no resistance from the wood. The battery lasted about 35 minutes of continual use, which isn't too bad. Hence, the need for a 2nd battery. Overall, this is a nice little saw and does not take a lot of prep time to get sawing.

A great consumer level chainsaw
My Ryobi tools collection has been growing and I have been moving over some of my gas yard tools to battery-powered. Last summer I purchased the Ryobi 18 volt 10-inch chainsaw for small limb cutting. When my 16-inch gas-powered chainsaw early this past fall I considered the battery-powered but I was skeptical it would have the power. I already have some of Ryobi 40-volt powered tools that have been serving me very well so I took the chance with this Ryobi 40-volt 14-inch chainsaw. The chainsaw comes with everything needed out of the box except for the bar/chain oil. The Ryobi construction is good. A few of the negative items that stood out to me is the awkward battery placement. It stands out at 9-O'clock position versus being in-line with the back handle. This makes it difficult to get the chainsaw in close cuts on the left (port) side. This is seldom an issue, however, the battery placement does add stability to the saw when placed on the ground. The next negative is the chain guard housing. It is mostly plastic, although it does have a metal skirt at the tensioner, however, lashing of wood chips and debris will over time abrade the plastic. And last; the compact included battery charger is poorly designed to work with the release of the battery. The charger power cord is positioned very close to the battery lock release. Removing the battery from the charger you have to almost remove the charger cord or risk damaging the plug insert at the charger. The good: The chain is super easy to adjust and thanks to the built-in bar tool in the handle, chain slack is less likely to be ignored. The chain sprocket is a decent design for a consumer tool and appears to be replaceable if needed. The double stud bar fastener keeps the bar and chain in place. It has an automatic oiler for the chain which kept the chain lubricated most of the time. I did a couple no-load spins to oil the chain when I noticed it was a bit too dry on some long cuts. The chainsaw trigger is very responsive, although not much of a "controlled" variable speed when needed for nicking off limbs. However, it does have a very decent chain brake when the trigger is released. My cuts are typically 10 - 12 inch logs which the Ryobi handled beautifully. The included 4.0Ah battery only dropped 2 levels cutting a dozen 16-inch long logs averaging 10 inches in diameter. My only suggestion is that I wish the included charger could be dual purpose - allowing the battery to provide USB power OTG. Overall I am pleased with the Ryobi Brushless chainsaw kit.

We use to live in a townhouse and now have a home, we are back to buying tools. Now that we are older we really appreciate the many Ryobi battery operated tools that we have gotten. Glad we got this one with battery as this is stronger one then our others. Glad that that the blade has a great cover for it and may get the toolbox that another reviewer showed to store it in. This will be perfect for our smaller jobs around the yard.

I love this Saw!!!
I ordered this saw because I have been so impressed with its little brother, the 18 Volt with 10 inch bar. Bigger really is better when it comes to chainsaws, and this one is great. No muss, no fuss... comes fully assembled, just put chain and bar oil in it, charge the battery, and pop the battery in - all set to cut. I didn't cut long enough today to really test the length of time it will hold a charge, but I am sure it will hold longer than the 18 Volt. But POWER to spare! Cut through a 15 inch elm tree branch with no problems, and goes through smaller stuff like a knife through butter. I am very happy! As you can see from the pictures, I have about 5 acres of dead elm trees around my farm, so it will get plenty of work. I used to have a 16 inch gas chainsaw and got so sick of it being temperamental, I gave it away. Hurray to Battery Power!
