Q:I'm using the XFS sub-surface dripline, and Rain Bird says I need the XFFCOUP Barb Coupling Adapter, 17mm x 17mm, SKU A50870. It is exceedingly difficult to find specific things on Home Depot w/out same names, product #s and SKUs. Is this SKU A50870?

A:  No clamps should be necessary. I've installed well over 100 of these and I've never seen one leak. Perhaps you have 5/8" tubing instead of 1/2"? Either way, In your case I suggest using a perma-loc type coupling which has screw knobs on each side that lock the tubing in.

A:  I have had no problems when used with proper diameter tubing (i last used DIG 1/2 in. (.700 O.D.) Poly Drip Irrigation Tubing). You have to insure that coupling is not scored and is pushed into the tubing as far as it will go. Your can soften the tubing with hot water, if you have difficulty inserting the coupling. clamps should not be required if you use with the correct ID tubing.

A:  I used these for years and no leaks. They are actually pretty tight and takes some effort to push the tube all the way in. Are you using the right tubes? Rain Bird brand? In my experience the DIG (brand) tube fits loose on these couplings.

A:  No putty or glue they just seal good enough since they are in/on the ground

                by|Sep 22, 2019

A:  Here's what I do and I've never had a leak: 1) Cut the tubing flush - no jagged ends 2) Heat the tubing end in hot water till it's pliable 3) Insert the coupling into the tubing and push until the tubing is flush with that raised center ridge. Glue or clamps should not be necessary.

Worked perfectly unlike 2 other RB couplers
Tried 2 other RB couplers which were worthless. Only needed about 4” of hose & HD Carries 2 foot sections which helped a lot. Went into hose relatively easily but I did use a device made by RB to make it easier. (Was considering oiling inside of hose but didn’t need to). No leaks! Would highly recommend that u use this coupler which goes inside the hose versus the other 2 where hose goes inside the coupler.

I found this much easier to use than a compression coupler to repair a leak in an irrigation system.
