About This Product

This residential and light commercial grade in-line valve replaces Rain Bird and other irrigation valves installed below ground with 1 in. female threaded inlet and outlet. It can be used with any 24 volt AC irrigation timer. Its unique reverse-flow design helps prevent flooding in the event of internal diaphragm failure, keeping the valve closed and saving water. This valve can be applied with all types of watering devices including Rain Bird spray heads (1800, 600), and rotors (22SA, 32SA, 42SA+, 52SA, LG3 and AG5). Use in-line valves in locations where the use of a pressure vacuum breaker (PVB) or a double-check valve is required by code to protect against backflow. Check your local codes to determine what type of valve is required. After installation and before startup, always the flush system of dirt and debris manually using the valve's external bleed screw.

Highlights

  • Reliable, non-clogging design

Q:I have a valve 1" Rainbird valve that won't shut off. I've tried two new valves in the same location with the same result. There are seven zones in the system and all of the others shut off. It's the first valve in line on the manifold. Any ideas?

Q:Installed new valve can’t get water to come on when I turn my water on from my control panel how do I no if I have power to the selonoid

Answer This Question

A:  The solenoid should make a distinct "click" when activated. If timer and wiring check out, try unscrewing the solenoid and swapping it with a nearby valve of the same model. Using the "Manual Start" on your controller, check the station again to see if the borrowed solenoid activates the valve. If you're still experiencing issues, we’d love to walk you through the steps to troubleshoot. Just reach out to our technical support at 1-800-RAIN BIRD (800-724-6247) so we can help.

Q:Will they withstand Arizona sun if outside or should I paint them?

    Answer This Question

A:  Rain Bird in-line valves can withstand high heat and humidity, but they are intended to be installed below ground and in a valve box with cover, so sun exposure should be minimal. If you would like additional help, please feel free to contact our technical support at 1-800-RAIN BIRD (800-724-6247) and we’d be more than happy to assist.

Q:Do the timer controllers come with wire to connect to solenoid valve?
      by|Oct 16, 2023
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  Rain Bird irrigation controllers come with a transformer/powercord, mounting hardware, instruction manual and scheduling card. Alternatively, Rain Bird valves come with a solenoid with preinstalled solenoid wire and instruction manual. Should you need longer runs of direct burial wire for the solenoid connection to controller, you'll also need watertight electrical wire connectors for solenoid connection to direct burial wire, which can be purchased from a home improvement store. If you would like additional help, please feel free to contact our technical support at 1-800-RAIN BIRD (800-724-6247) and we’d be more than happy to assist.

The assistant in the store was very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. He took me to the area where the valves were and got me exactly what I needed. When I returned home I opened the packaging and found excellent and easy to follow installation instructions. Having never replaced a valve like this before, I was a bit apprehensive, but thanks to the Home Depot assistant and the thorough instructions that came with the valve, I had the old one out and the new one installed in 30 minutes. Perfect fit, works great and saved a bunch of money. Home Depot scores at the top of my choices every time. They are my number one go to store for all my home repair needs, and here is just another perfect example why. Thanks again Home Depot.

Bought this to match the valves from the original installation, this one to add a zone. It worked exactly as advertised and I'm happy with the performance. It has now been in service for a couple of weeks and all is good.

Rain Bird valve is better than Orbit valve
There have been 4 zones using Rain Bird valves which were installed in my front more than year 20 years ago, 9 zones using Orbit valves which were installed in my back yard 7 years ago. Last year, I was out of town for 2 weeks. When back home, one of sprinkler in the back yard was on. It could not be turned of by any means except turn of the water source. The water bill that month was $1,800+ including $1,700+ for water only. Because nothing wrong for the Rain Bird valves in the front yard. So I replaced defective Orbit valve with a Rain Bird valve. Few months later, 2nd Orbit valve defected. I had to replace it. Then 3rd Orbit valves defected. I decide to replace all 9 Orbit valves. Done with 7, 2 more to go ( see pictures )

Best replacement for Toro irrigation valve
This valve is easy to install with the housing having threads. This allows the installer to thread on one inch PVC pipe prior to complete installation. The housing has very defined instructions and markings which aid in the installation process. This is my sixth valve to purchase and I am replacing the Toro valves that fail. I would definitely recommend this product to everyone. This valve has easy to replace components that make the valve a user friendly model and the replacement parts are readily available. I have several that are working like new but know that working on these valves will be easier than the toro models.

        Good valve, good size
This valve fit nicely along with a filter/reducing psi connection into our round irrigation box. Have used this brand before and it has worked well. We use this 3/4-inch valve for our drip system to shrubs, plants, trees, and flowers.
