There are shorter distance sprinklers you can get. However if you are dead set on having a rotor you can always adjust the front screw down very far and shorten your distance. It will make the spray wider, but it will work. You can adjust nozzle heads too, however I don't think those would get you the distance you want by itself.
these units can be used with any water system with proper water pressure you can get adapters to fit this unit to diff .size water lines
yes
How many heads? My well pump goes down to 30 psi before kicking back on and I am running 3 heads per zone without any problems.

1/2 "
I wouldn't do more than 3. We have well water in our town and my pump will go down to 30psi before it turns back on and 3 heads work fine. If I added a 4th, I know it would be a problem, especially if you wanted them running at max coverage and this was confirmed by a plumber familiar with typical well systems in our town.
you would have know your water source to ans. this correctly ( well or city water pressure then set distance screws on rotor directions are on label i think
these units are not valves that turn water off and on that is normally controled by a timer or faucet you need to check that first if your water is on a meter you are paying for this problem if you are on a well the piump will run too much you may to contact your plumber for this
