It can be both only because the company is immune from legal trouble over false advertising. Its called 'oak' because it is supposed to look like oak-to some one who has never seen oak before. I took a Gage to the material--it is 07 32nds--- sure its an odd measure, but I suspect its 'perfect' if it was metrik scale

Is each side of this EXACTLY 1" please? I have to find something like this that CANNOT be more than 1" on the outside sides, like this image, please see: https://image.ibb.co/cjZTob/Outside_Corner_Trim.png . (I also tried attaching the same image to this post). After recently getting in our crown moulding I realized to my horror they gave the WRONG DIMENSION for its thickness! Now the trim I already have for the vertical outside (and inside) wall corners won't work because the crown moulding's corners are too small and thin to work with it! Thank you.

This material isa man made core- with a plastic decal on the front. It MIGHT if it is sealed well, but I would not use it outside at all
