Answer This Question

A:  HI James, this is is only if you want extra holding power in drywall. The holding power in drywall with the screw on its own is 30 lbs. In a stud, holding power is 100 lbs. When combined with Mini Snap Skru anchors, holding power in drywall is 80 lbs.

      Q:How do you install these

      Answer This Question

A:  No pilot hole is needed. They are very sharp and very strong, so not much force is needed. You screw them perfectly straight into the wall, no angle needed. Be sure to do the final snug-down with a hand screwdriver, to avoid sinking them into the surface.

      A:  phillips head screw driver

      by|Oct 26, 2019

A:  Install by hand with a Phillip's Head screwdriver for plaster, drywall or wood. If you need to install into concrete or brick, please drill a 1/8" pilot hole.

      by|Sep 3, 2019

A:  These install easily with the simple turn of a #2 Phillips head screwdriver. If going into a stud, a battery operated screwdriver is easier but still not necessary. I would not use a battery operated impact gun to install these.

        by|Oct 30, 2019

A:  Hi Rachel, I found that a screw gun worked best for me.

        A:  No, strictly the anchors.

A:  No it does not. This product works with plastic anchors if additional holding power is needed.

The Hangman 1inch Bear-claw Double- Headed Anchorless Screw is a great product to have in any home hardware for mounting those heavy pictures, art work, or anything else that needs to be supported. The Handman screw comes in different sizes making it the most convenient screws to keep in your tool box,or your hardware drawer. These work best when screwed in to a wood stud.

These double headed anchorless screws are so perfect for hanging pictures, mirrors, wall clocks, and many other items. Before finding out about these items, I used to have to use a drywall anchor and not drill the screw in all the way to get the same effect. I love these, because it makes it so much easier. In one easy step (screw the anchor into the wall), you are done. You can use the same simple piece of hardware to drill into a stud or drywall. This is so handy and makes hanging your items even quicker than figuring out if you need to use a drywall anchor or if you are drilling into a stud. This item works with both. When drilled into drywall, it supports up to 30 lbs. When drilled into a stud, it supports up to 100 lbs. I highly recommend this product. My only complaint would be the plastic was not properly glued to the board back, so the anchorless screws fell out in the box during shipping. This wasn't a major issue for me, because all 25 screws were there in the box. Just something to watch out for.

Wow. Just what you're looking for to hang pictures on the wall. These are ingenious and, quite frankly, why has no one made these before now? First, these are the right size to go through/into most drywall and, if you're lucky or plan it, into a stud. The screw needs know anchor and is completely removable. It has great threads on it to dig into drywall and hold your picture. Rated for 30 lbs in drywall and 100 in a stud, this is the hanger you need for pictures. It's also got an attractive design so it can be exposed and will look perfectly fine. I'm very happy with these and we hung 12 different frames with these and had no problems.

This product is not the length indicated in the product description. Tip to tip this product is only 1-1/4 inches long. The double head takes up a 1/4 inch of the total length leaving only 1 inch to penetrate the surface. Given normal 1/2 inch drywall that leaves only 1/2 inch penetration into a stud behind drywall and some of that is the tapered tip. To test the product I drove the screw 1/2 inch into a 4x4 to simulate wood behind drywall. I then created a jig where I could hang weight on the screw from the double head surface. I placed 60 pounds of weight on the screw and it both bent and began tearing out of the wood. As a result, I would recommend sticking to the 30 pound rating of drywall mounting even if you are drilling into wood behind drywall. To test wood only mounting I drove a new screw into the 4x4 and fully seated it against the wood providing the full 1 inch penetration for the screw. I was able to hang 82 pounds from it without any negative impact to the screw or the wood. It will likely support the full 100 pound rating when fully driven into wood. While I did not mount this in drywall only for testing purposes, I suggest pairing it with an anchor to increase load capacity and prevent failure. These screws offer convenience from two standpoints. 1) The double head design works well with keyholes, wire, D-ring and saw tooth hangers. 2) The self drilling tip allows one to install this product without pre-drilling. Since the double head is a fixed depth, you lose the ability to create a tight friction fit between your product and the wall surface like you can do with a regular screw.

Response from Hangman Product ExpertNov 25, 2019
Hello, and thank you for your in-depth review of this product. We appreciate the great effort and time you have put into it.

We do want to comment on the testing.

The screw is lab tested to hold 100 pounds in a stud and 30 pounds in 1/2” drywall.
Driving a screw 1/2” into wood instead of the full inch creates a false result. The partial installation creates a force moment of leverage many times the applied weight. The test assumes that the 1/2” drywall does not add to the load rating but that is a faulty assumption. Installing 1/2 of the screw with a 60 pounds load creates a lever of at least 300 pounds. We suggest testing by installing into a stud with drywall included.

Please feel free to reach out directly to us at info@hangmanproducts.com with further questions or clarifications.

Thank you again for taking the time to test and review. SG

The Hangman 1-1/2in, Bear Claw anchorless screws are fantastic. They are very easy to install in drywall or directly on to the studs in the wall. Since they are self tapping the only thing that is required is a Phillips Head screw driver. They can hold up to 30 pounds in drywall and up to 100 pounds in a wall stud. They make hanging things up a breeze. Best of all, unlike most wall anchors they only leave a small hole in the wall when removed making patching mush easier.

This is a review of Hangman's "Bear Claw Hanger" BCK-25. They are made in Taiwan. These weren't the 1 1/2" screws I was expecting; my comments apply to the 1 1/4" I received. [The head is 1/4", the threaded portion 1". I was expecting a screw with a threaded portion of 1 1/2" which, for me, would have many more applications.] The concept is great, the execution not-so. Simply, these screws are too short by at least 1/4". The threaded portion of the hanger is 1" long [with the the last 1/4" being tapered]; the body of the screw is 3/32"; and the diameter across the flights being ~ 5/32"; coarse thread of ~ 7 tpi. When screwed into 1/2" thick sheetrock [aka wallboard, gypsum board], they would be fine for a light load [I know it says 30 lbs, but I wouldn't go more than 15], hung close to the wall, i.e. vertical, not cantilevered load. If you catch a stud behind that wallboard don't expect the 'excess' 1/4" to add significantly to the capacity. However, if screwed directly into a stud, you can expect it to handle at least 50 lbs ... I wouldn't trust it for the claimed 100-lb rating. These really work well for mounting frames with 'keyhole' recesses.

Well, I haven't hung a picture with them yet, but these HANGMAN 1-1/2 IN. 4-IN-1 BEAR CLAW DOUBLE-HEADED ANCHORLESS SCREW (25-PACK) are good for hanging other stuff. So far I have only used them to hang my fly swatter and my handheld bug zapper. These screws are perfect for that, though. These screws probably have many more functions as well. Cool color too.

These anchors are amazing! After doing new drywall with a better thickness, we had a very large multiple-picture frame setting to hang on the wall. We waited until these came in hoping they would work as the frames are solid wood and the rod is wrought iron and the chains are iron so concerned about weight. These went in just as the package says, we followed the instructions and are very pleased with the weight this holds.

I have tried so many wall hangers but I finally found a decent hanger for my drywall! I love these screws and will definitely purchase more. These zinc plated screws have a brassy gold finish are very handy since they have a built-in hanger with the double-headed feature. When screwed into the wall, the hanger remains for attaching anything with a diameter of 3/16" and can hold up to 30 lbs. in drywall or 100 lbs. in wooden studs. They need no anchors, but I like that they will work well with anchors, which will increase the strength and allow the drywall to also hold 100 lbs. These screws can be screwed into drywall, wood, plaster, and lath with no problems. They can also be used on concrete if you drill a pilot hole. I screwed one into drywall and it went in easily and it held tight. All I needed was a Phillips head screwdriver.

The hangman bear claw double head screws are awesome. The double head designs let's you snug the screw in all the way tight with still having a small head accessible to hang stuff of it. The course thread design on the threads bite very good in the sheetrock alone letting you hang stuff with in reasonable weight anywhere you want with out needing a stud to anchor it to.
