About This Product

Scotts Halts Crabgrass & Grassy Weed Preventer prevents the germination of listed lawn weeds so you can enjoy your lawn. In early spring, apply when lawn is dry to prevent the germination of crabgrass, foxtail, spurge, barnyardgrass, fall panicum, goosegrass* and oxalis all season long (*for goosegrass control, repeat application in 8 weeks). Apply in the fall (August-October) to prevent moss (except in California), or to prevent the germination of Poa annua, henbit, corn speedwell, and chickweed. Scotts Halts Crabgrass & Grassy Weed Preventer is for use on all lawns and grass types (with the exception of Dichondra or Bentgrass lawns). Rain, snow, or freezing weather after application will not affect the performance of this product. Please note, this product controls crabgrass in its early stages of growth. It does not control mature crabgrass and other existing weeds. One 10.06 lb. bag of Scotts Halts Crabgrass & Grassy Weed Preventer covers 5,000 sq. ft.

      Made my weeds worse!
I put down 2 bags on 8,000 sq ft of Bermuda and St. Augustine in September, and have more POA, chickweed, and crabgrass now (March) than I’ve ever had before. It’s almost like it contained seeds for the weeds.

        Great Product
Product performed excactly as it claimed it would. Crabgrass and Goosegrass was my worst enemy and now it almost eliminated all of it.

It works great if used routinely
Ive been using this product 4yrs plus. I used to have a POA Annua infestation every year prior to that until I found this pre-emergent. Its not a miracle preemergent, but with routine use and manually pulling the poa that does manage to sprout, I reduced the infestation at least 99%. Now I can count on my hand the number of POA that sprout every year, its very minimal. I think it does a great job if used on a regular basis and given time to work.

            My accidental experiment
I used this product and it didn't seem to work. However, I had an interesting incident with it. While using my spreader on a hill, it tipped briefly and spilled a decent chunk of material on the lawn. I scraped up what I could, but over time, what was left washed down the hill. Where the bulk of the product fell, the grass died. I wasn't surprised at that. But the picture shows what happened with the product that washed down the hill. The grass is green and weed free. Beautiful. The first pic is from about 8 weeks ago, second pic is today. What I conclude is, though applied according to directions, the application was not heavy enough. That's Scott's fault. My concern is that the directions "stretch" the application area beyond what is realistic to make the price seem more favorable? I'll use again next year, but at heavier rates.

I have been on the Scott's Program for the last 7 years. The Crabgrass and Grassy Weed Preventer goes down in February-March depending on weather for my first of 5 annual applications. Proven winner.

                Excellent results!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As evidenced by the photos attached, the Scotts WeedEx Prevent with Halts did an amazing job! I use to have a lot of weedy areas in my lawn. I spread the product about 3-4 weeks ago and the results have been outstanding! I am very pleased with this product.
