Now Its Easy To Check For Power
This little tool gives you a quick indication of power present at really almost any location. I tested this on voltages from 240 down to 12 Volts and it works great for those ranges. I was even able to find the wiring inside my homes walls. I know where those wires run and this Sniff-It traces them with ease from the outside of the sheet rock. Just place it up to a powered outlet and it lets you know that the power is on with a fast red flashes. Then turn the power off and you get a solid green light with no beeps letting you know that no power is present at that location. This tester flashes red and beeps fast when its finds a circuit that's powered up and slows down as you move away from the power until it turns to a solid green. This really is a great little tool and for the price its great for any home owner to have one on hand. As someone that does quite a bit of electrical work this little jewel is very handy to have. No need to use a bigger meter to test if voltage is present, just pull this out of your pocket and start testing. The little LED light at the end of the unit is really useless. I have no idea why it's there since you have to be right on top of what you are looking at. They really could have made this brighter or just delete it. Overall, this is very handy and makes checking for power easy and it makes safety easy.

Very sensitive
I like this tool but it is a little to sensitive for me it beeps when your 1 foot from hot wires so it sometimes is hard to tell if the wires your checking are hot. Also you have to hold the button Down the entire time you are using it. My old tester could be turned on and stuck in a receptacle and you could go turn the breaker off and listen for the beeper to stop, that is a plus in my book. One of the features is you can find a bad miniature Christmas light. It also has a led mini flashlight on the end and a 5 year warranty! It will detect voltage from 30V - 600V, comes with batteries & a pocket lip!

Solid Voltage Tester
I have been working on electrical projects and was in need of a non-contact voltage tester and the TRIPLETT AC Voltage Detector works great. The solidly built voltage tester includes a flashlight on the backend of the tester which is a nice added feature. The batteries are installed by depressing the clip area and then installing them. The tester worked great (see photos) easily picking up voltage from several inches away and flashing red and speeding up the flashing as I got closer to the source. I tried it on even switches and it picked up voltage warnings. Overall its a great safety piece of equipment.

Triplett SniffIt - Should be in everyone's toolbox. It keeps Dummies out of the hospital.
This should be in every DIY'ers toolbox. Seriously, simple voltage detects have more than once saved me a shock or having to take take someone to the ER. The SniffIt to use single button detector that will detect power from a source from about 2-4 inches away. It's basic use is to tell you if a socket, switch or wire is live or not. This alone makes it worth the money you pay. It also has an indicates the intensity of the EMF. How is this little trick helpful? I have used this to get a general idea of where wires are in walls, and it give you a sense of how close you are to an active wire in a wall. Again keeping you safe and giving you a sense of how the electrical cabling is run. There is also a small pen style light on the back end. It's not super bright but it is bright enough for you see what you are doing.

Simply works!
Doing my own electrical work around that house made me think this would be a handy device to have for my own safety. I have to say the worst thing I ran into about this product was the blisterpack packaging that was difficult to cut. I also managed to rip the instructions trying to get them out of the packaging. I didn't have the foggiest idea on how to install the batteries. Nothing on the device and nothing in the ripped instruction manual. So I figured it out you had to pull the red part off while lifting on the pocket collar clasp to release the plastic catch. I liked how they had the battery compartment imprinted with which way the battery goes by showing the node on one end. Simple on and off switch on top. As you get nearer to a power source, it flashes red and beeps faster the nearer you are to the power source. I was actually able to trace the direction the wire was heading right through the drywall, it's so sensitive. So it will be perfect for checking an outlet prior to doing some electrical work on it. So easy to use I'll keep it among any tools I gather for doing electrical work.
